"Is it fast?"

Anyone else tired of getting this question? Every person who comes up to me to talk to me about my car asks it...so tired of explaining..."no, it's not fast...it handles great though". Has happened at least 10 times in the last year and a half. Oh well I guess...just wondering if this happens to other people as much as it does to me? At least people are coming up and complimenting my car, I guess...that hasn't really happened before, and I've had plenty of cars...slow and fast.

I'm tired of people saying it's slow, to be honest. This is the fastest car I've ever driven, so to me it is fast. But since everyone is so negative about the power/speed of this car, I've become hesitant when answering that question. I've settled for, "It's quick, but everyone says it's slow."

"No, it's slow."

Don't be so strung up on what people think.

True - it just gets old after a while, I guess. Like, I personally don't care that it's "slow". It's still faster than a couple of cars I've owned, and it's a lot slower than some others. It really doesn't matter to ME so much because I knew what I was getting, but it's like the people that come up and talk to me are almost disappointed for me when I tell them it's slow LOL

This car is not slow.. is it a 13 second car out of the box? No, but its not slow.

Problem is, it looks much faster than it is.

I cared the first time someone asked, then I normally see what they drive, and understand why that's the first question asked.

Now if someone approaches me and asks, "How's it handle on the curves," that's a different story. But more often than not I get the "so do you drift it," and I show them the curb rash under the front bumper from when I tried

It's not slow.

Until 8 months ago my next fastest cars were 2005 Acura TSX M6 and 2008 Honda Accord V6.

Last winter I bought a 2011 WRX and Cobb flash tuned it. That was the first car I ever owned that I'd call fast.

Still, 6.2s 0-60 is not slow. Actually, I am doubtful I could launch my car that fast.

I guess the best reply would be, "It's not bad, but it's not a muscle car either".

I was listening in on a random conversation at Jimmy John's. The guy making sandwiches drove a twin as well and was talking to a customer about his car. He kept comparing it to his 300C and how much faster of a car it was stating "Yea the car looks great but it's powered by a lawn mower engine. Looks fast but is really slow." The sandwich guy simply responded by saying "Yea it's definitely slow if all you know how to do is step on the gas pedal. If you actually know how to drive though it will run circles around many cars." Obviously the guy took offense, but all I could do was smile and chuckle when it was my turn to place my order.

The true question is: how can the Jimmy John's guy afford a twin?

I'm not through my break in period yet, so not sure how fast it will feel above 4 grand. But coming from a somewhat neck snapping audi boosting well over 20psi, I'd call my new 86 "peppy". Luckily i sold my A4 and drove a civic for 6 months to save up for this new ride, so compared to that POS, the FRS has plenty of juice.
When people ask, I tell them it's fast on a track, not in a straight line.

The problem is, most people conflate "fast" with low/midrange torque. In other words, "Is the car fast when I push the gas pedal without downshifting?" For which the answer is no.

The question they really should be asking is, "Is the car fast when I push the gas pedal after downshifting to the lowest possible gear?" For which the answer is, the Twins are about as fast as a MK6 GTI, Mini Cooper S, Civic SI, etc.

... which is to say, still pretty darn slow, but about what'd you'd expect for the price.

The best answer to the question is "I don't care." 0 to 60 is for losers stuck in a time warp. This car dominates in the areas that matter in the real world. Handles like a dream. Stops on a dime. These two features are much more applicable to legal street performance than sheer acceleration. And, are the only performance characteristics that matter when it comes to down to safety where applicable to accident avoidance.

Yup I get that. They always have this look of horror on their faces when I tell them its not fast. Next time I'm gonna say it runs a 13.5 and then they'll say "is that good?"
