Toyota Mega Web

Last month, I had the pleasure of spending three weeks in Tokyo.
Amongst the amazing food, crazy nightlife and non-stop sensory overload, one experience stood out as being a definite highlight of my trip, and that was my day at the Toyota Mega Web. I thought I'd share some photos of it with you guys (please excuse my poor photography - I ain't a pro!)

Here are a couple pics from the first exhibit of the Mega web, the History Garage and Design showcase which held a huge collection of classic Toyotas, as well as cars (real and dye-cast) that influenced Toyota's early designs.

The next exhibit was the Toyota City Showcase. Here's when things got crazy, as I had no idea what to expect. When those automatic doors slid open, my mind was absolutely blown. I hope the photos speak for themselves!

Blaarrg I want it all!!

Trying to contain my excitement sitting in the TRD demo car

Unfortunately, due to schedule constraints and travelling with people who don't appreciate cars nearly as much as I do, I wasn't able to spend as much time here as I had liked =( We really were just "passing by," having to walk though this building to get to the Sega Joypolis and Onsen, but I secretly wanted to stay here forever!

They also had the rest of Toyota's current production cars to see and touch (like a giant showroom floor) but I only stuck around the 86's as I wanted to stare at them for as long as I could. If you're ever in Odaiba, do yourself a favour and check this place out!

p.s. The only thing I wanted to pilot over a GT86 that day =)

I'm so jealous - when I went there weren't nearly as many 86's

Nice! It's been years since I've been there but I'm looking forward to going there again this fall.

Did you get a chance to go to the gift shop area where they have the 100,000 yen model cars?

Revisiting Japan has been on the top of my list, but every time I see pictures like this, I don't think of going back. There's so many things I want to do, I'd need 6 months over there to do it all!

For sure, man! There's just SO much of everything, it's overwhelming. Three weeks wasn't nearly enough to see all of tokyo. I'm glad that we decided not to get the JR pass to go to other parts of Japan because it wouldn't be satisfying to just skim through it all. You really gotta explore all the nooks and crannies of the place to really appreciate it.

Did you go through a booking company or something? What did you use to plan your trip?

I would love to visit that place and Sega Joypolis. One day I hope to take a vacation there and also visit Akihabara.

Yeah! practically everything in the gift shop was really, really expensive.
Some 1:64 were going for hundreds of dollars!

We booked our flight online through flighthub.com, then an apartment for three weeks through airbnb.com. As for planning, there wasn't much of a plan other than a subway map, and a rough idea of what's at each stop!
We got a portable wifi hub with our apartment rental so that really helped with navigation.

Akihabara is insane. You can't even fathom the amount of stuff they have until you see it for yourself. I wanted to buy a Gundam kit so I went into a store and was faced with literally multiple floors of Gundams, then left with nothing because I was so overwhelmed with the selection that it hurt my brain.

Thanks, man! I am definitely going to look into that for this year or next. I've always been nervous of airbnb (creeps or scammers or something), but I've heard nothing but good reviews from friends that have used it in Europe.
