Changing Premium to Limited?

So I emailed my salesperson asking if I could change my pre-order from a Premium to a Limited without bumping me to the back of the line. Here is his response:

"Finally got some answers for you, as far as upgrading to a Limited model it can be done, here's the catch we would have to cancel your current order and then place the order on the Limited and that would put you at the bottom of the list! Ouch. What we can do to keep it current is add accessories to your current order to upgrade that way and then when the car arrives we can have leather a better grade put in and add the heated seat features, along with the spoiler and what ever else you want to add. The window to change the order from one trim to another was only a day this I did not know. Let me know what you want to do as far as the accessories go."

I'm a bit confused now. Is he saying I can get all of the Limited features added by the dealership? This is how I replied:

"How much would it cost to add the extra features, and which features can I choose from? Will it cost more than the $2000 premium I would pay for the Limited? I want all of the features the Limited has, EXCEPT for the rear spoiler:

Bluetooth Keyless Access & Push Start Button
Smart Key Answer-back electronic chirp
Black Leather/Alcantara upholstery
Dual-Zone Automatic climate control
Heated front seats
Heated side mirrors
Fog Lights

And how long is the pre-order list right now? And what's my position on it? This is actually VERY important to me because I have a limited time window. I will be leaving for California sometime in July and will need the car by then. There were some rumors that dealerships will be receiving the cars pro-rata, so only a couple cars a month in the order of the pre-order list will be available to buy."

There's no way I'm paying more than $2000 for those upgrades, as the small upgrade price is the whole reason I want to change to a Limited. The rear spoiler is a $567 option on the official accessories list, which is a lot, and none of the other Limited features are priced. Waiting to hear back from him, but I was wondering if you all had any input.

My inclination is that these will not be dealer-addable features:

Bluetooth Keyless Access & Push Start Button
Dual-Zone Automatic climate control

Of course, I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like an easy swap. Maybe some other keyless access/pushbutton start system would be available, but not the one from the Limited that is integrated into the dual-zone CC panel.

They're talking about doing aftermarket heated seats and leather, and bolting on a spoiler and fog lights. They won't be able to add the keyless access or auto climate control, and probably not the heated exterior mirrors either. I dunno man, I wouldn't want to go that way. Either stick to the Premium or wait the time it takes to get the Limited.

I'd say wait it out. I'm a sucker for luxuries in a car and always get jealous when I see someone else with the same car and better upgrades. I'd hate to stick with the premium and see the limiteds driving around and think "now only if i didnt have to use my key..."

I would wait it out...the Limited model is worth it in my opinion. Its only $2k more. Its worth it for the seats and dualzone AC with push start.

I agree with waiting it out if you really want the limited. What the dealer is proposing will probably cost more than $2k and won't look factory spec. That could bring up issues when you try to resell or trade the car later, and you don't have an original interior.

You can always try and find another dealer with open allocations that may not have as long of a wait list.

stay away from dealer add-ons. If you are dead set on the limited, switch your order. Or maybe try to find someone who ordered a limited and wants to switch to a premium?

I'm sure the wait won't be much longer as its based on allocation vs dealer order # from what I understand

I really would like to know how Katskin leather and those guys get away with reupholstering seats that have airbags built in. From my understanding, this could be very dangerous! OEM's have to crash test seats in every different type and color of fabric in order to manufacture them, which is expensive; hence why there's only two choices and just one color for the BRZ.

If you really want a Limited then just switch the order to one. You'll probably be much happier with factory upgrades rather than aftermarket.

If it's done the way Clazzio does it, the stitching on the side of the seat cover where the airbag is located will separate if the airbag deploys.

Wow, I didn't realize this would be such an issue. In that case, I'll see if I can switch my order to a Limited without a huge delay, otherwise I'll just settle for the Premium. But something like fog lights shouldn't be an issue if added aftermarket, right?

well, SOME features can be added to the Premium model without issue
I HOPE, because while I can SKIP out on alot of other things HEATED exterior mirror
sure do come in handy.

Stick with the Premium and put the $2K towards a nice set of rims and tires.
