Why are they not selling?

The first FRS showed up at a dealership down the road, it was red, about 2 months ago and the WR Blue BRZ was at the next dealership within a week. Neither have sold and they've been sitting there for a while now. On the other hand the same dealerships, of which one is a Subie and the other Toyota can't seem to hold onto any other type of sports car they get in. Mini Cooper S, 350 and 370z's, Challengers, Camaros, all seem to fly off the lot, they can't even keep WRX's in stock and STi's are pretty much pre-order only.

This got me to wondering, because I was thinking of trading in my 04 M3 for one. What gives? I figured I'd be seeing a ton of them on the streets by now. Is there something wrong with them that no one talks about?

Same thing here on Cape Cod. It all just depends on location. I know there are ppl out there that still havent gotten theirs and have been waiting for months.

They should ship those cars down south. They will sell here. I had to go to Denver to get mine because I did not want to wait till February or later.

For some reason they based the allocation on wrx sales, so NE ended up with a ton of them and nobody is going buy one right before winter. Meanwhile in California dealers have sold their entire allocation for the year and are charging huge markups. Subaru of America is not exactly a brilliant organization.

people seem to be takin' a second look, and realizing the car has very little practicality to it!.granted,it's a ton of fun,and for what it's designed to do,does it very, very well, however this may not be enough for some to part with $25,000 "large",that, and the fact, the rear seat turns some off as well!
heading into winter in the northern states,is not exactly conducive to strong
sales!

Are they stickered? Some dealers jacked up the prices in order to keep a car on the lot for advertising purchases. Others use them as demos and search here for purchasing a demo and you'll see most people are against it.

The two closest Toyota dealers in my area both have them sitting on the lot in inventory. I don't see any on the lot at the Subaru dealer though.

I'm not complaining, I like having a car that's not seen on the streets everyday.

As for why they aren't selling, for one it's a RWD sports car being sold at a dealership that has AWD in every other one of their models, or for Scion the rest are FWD and more manageable in the winter. No one would buy a RWD sports car in the north right before winter, most either got them over the summer, or they are waiting until the spring.

I would guess it's a dealer markup thing keeping those cars on the lot. They like having an interesting car on the lot and once that one's gone they're not likely to get another to replace it.

Some dealers seem to have run wild with them, selling whatever they could get their hands on and then hoping they can get replacements. The dealer I went to (Ira) seems to be cycling through them pretty quickly - at least on the scion side.

Agree with the others, probably due mainly to two things:
-winter is almost here and RWD car = not a good seller in any state that sees freezing rain or snow
-alot of dealers still have them above MSRP and people aren't going to keep buying them above MSRP
