Same exact thing here. Im at 43k now and am wondering if I should bring it in. What interesting is that all the symptoms have actually stopped in the past 6k milers. A little squeak here and there but that's it. Hoping it wont get worse!

Took mine in and they said it's the clutch switch.. are you kidding me lol. I'm taking a rep in my car to show him. He is saying he doesn't hear anything and it's pretty obvious to me.

So quick update the tech refused to go with me and asked me to leave and never come back for business. IDK if he's but hurt because I said he was wrong with the diagnoses or what but what an ahole. I could not believe he said that I mean I had to ask him to repeat what he had just said. Needless to say talked with the manager and showed him the issue and he heard the grinding and will contact insurance to see if it can be fixed. That was the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life I mean who tells the customer to basically fuck off and never come back. Of nothing comes off this I'm thinking of contacting the district manager or Toyota idk.

I changed my clutch with a exedy oem replacement clutch (boxed exedy product) at about 55k miles. I wonder if it uses the same parts or not as the defective bearing. Fingers crossed I'm good, been using it about 30k miles now and no goose honks.

I do get a squeak when depressing it. I figured it might be the slave cylinder noise, might need to re-check, or maybe I need to re-lube the input shaft.

Can you change a clutch? If you can get the car up high enough and drop the transmission out at home then generally that woul be what you need to do. While I could have done it, I didn't have the time to have it out of commission that long and took it to an independent shop. Was close to $2K, damn. Dealer refused to cover it under drivetrain, and there would have been a month wait for service?!
I went until it pretty much fully grenaded, I'm actually surprised it didn't do more damage but I guess it rides on shoulder over the input shaft so the shaft is protected. The bearing was a nice burnt steel color, shattered pieces of race, and pretty much all the balls had escaped or burnt to crisp.
I wouldn't wait until it got as bad as mine did. For a while it was a little noisy, but when it gets louder it goes pretty fast.
Oh yeah, pics:

I used some lucas red and tacky on mine last summer and it has been quiet ever since. It started making a slight noise again in the morning after it started getting very humid around here. I added some more grease using a skewer to get it down to the bearing and it has been quiet.. 84k so I know it's either going to go soon or keep doing what it's doing.

My TOB failed and I replaced it with the Southbend stage 2 daily clutch kit. The noise has returned (it never really went away), but I should also mention that I forgot to replace the pilot bearing. Me and another guy are in the same boat, he also forgot to replace his pilot bearing when changing his clutch and TOB and is getting a noise. Any ideas?

My noise happens when I depress the clutch (pedal down), but sometimes I will hear a whirr when the clutch is engaged (pedal up).

Updated Throw out bearing

My 2013 BRZ has 35000 miles and is on it's fourth TOB. All replaced by Subaru under warranty. This 4th TOB is apparently an updated one that Subaru put out earlier this year. It's supposed to have better lubricating grease that withstands hot temperatures better than the older ones.

To anyone in Southern California still under warranty I would suggest Subaru Pacific in Hawthorne. I have had all the TOB work done there under warranty and have taken it in with and UEL header and they have not questioned it all y. Makes sense since the UEL would not effect the TOB but I know some dealers are picky about that.

Anyway, this new TOB seems to be smoother in operation than the older one

Damn, it would only be a 3,000 mile drive over water for me.
I ended up having an independent shop do it and they used the old part #.

Just replaced my clutch because of the TOB issues like everyone here. Went with OEM Exedy parts, doubt it came with the new one, wished I had known and done it right the first time.

Weird originally was making loud noises when I engaged the clutch, which led me replacing it. Now with replaced parts it makes a smaller whine noise when it's not engaged and goes away when I do engage and shift gears.

Wondering if I should be worried, and replace it with the updated TOB now, but damn if I have to do all that transmission work again haha

A little bit of noise isn't the end of the world, if you're thinking of doing all that work JUST to swap the TOB might as well let the current one serve it's purpose for a few tens of thousands of miles.

If you do it again, will you make us a video on how to do that?

Just got mine approved today! ...but they have to order a part and I still have to pay a $50 deductible. We'll see how good the new one is!

Just curious about the price difference between SU003-07349 and 30502AA150.
Are those same parts or not?
Quick search shows that SU003-07349 is lower than 20 USD but 30502AA150 is around 40 USD.
