Illegal to leave snow on your car in Connecticut also. As of January 1st, all trucks must remove all snow and ice from their roofs also -$1200 fine for first offense. Several people have been killed / injured by flying ice sliding off truck's roofs and hitting the car(s) behind them. Some trucking companies now have a machine that scrapes the roofs before the trucks head out on the roads.

For my cars I use a boar's hair brush on a long pole for heavy wet snow and a leaf blower for light powdery stuff. I only try to get the worst of it and let the sun and sublimation take care of the rest. So far never got any scratches or swirls that I can't polish out in the spring.

The snow rake Mr. Sparkle showed is probably the best tool out there and inexpensive as well. I'll get one myself when my brush finally wears out.

I've had a bumper destroyed because of snow/ice flying off of the car in front of me. Someone I used to work with had a family member who had it came through the windshield.

Clean off your cars.

Having lived in Alaska for the better part of 20 years ... I find this whole thread really humerous. Driving a car in the winter with salt and sand on the road. Trucks without mudflaps spraying tons of road debris on the car. At a stoplight .... watching a driver in your rearview mirror trying to stop before hitting your rear bumper. Cars sliding everywhere. Losing control on black ice and ending up in a ditch. I guess the last thing on my mind was if I was going to put a small scratch on my car using a snow brush.

^ lol. Usually the snow ends up sticking to my brush and I'm pushing the snow off with a layer of snow on the brush which probably helps reduce swirls.

Get a snow joe. I have one and its awesome. The block of foam doesn't scratch/swirl your car unless your car is dirty and you drag the salt and debris off the cars surface.

Let us know when your windows explode so that you'll learn about thermal expansion...or you could read this thread and figure that what you're doing is a horrible idea.

It works great and so much easier than brushes, especially on the roof. It's also known as the Snow Brum.

Here's the autogeek thread:
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...ce-master.html

I wouldn't recommend the Ice Master though. I've tried it on multiple cars and it Does scratch glass. Scratched my windshield right at eye-level.

Yup, got one of those too. Clears it off a lot more quickly, too.

Not entirely true when it comes to the tempered glass that the side and back windows are made out of (already thermally shocked), though I would be careful with the windshield.

Here, I'll even back up my statement with a citation from WiseGeek

I lived in an apartment complex on a big hill. There was only one exit, which was at the bottom of the hill. The road to get out had tons of speed bumps. Leave snow on your car, drive a reasonable speed, then suddenly slow down for the speed bump and all the snow that was on your roof will now be on your windshield completely blocking your view. Saw it many times.
