Had me wondering!

Yea like the sensation of first where you have to be going slow like 15mph before it wants to glide into gear—that sensation. Can it go into gear? Yes, unlike first gear which literally locks you out, it can, but it will grind regardlessof double clutching. There is no way to quickly downshift from 6th to 5th on my car. The previous owner messed that gear up too bad. 4th to 5th will grind sometimes when the tranny is cold, but isnt really an issue; it just requires a little more focus. 6th to 5th downshifting is the problem, and the only way it won’t grind is to wait with mild pressure until it slips into gear, analygous to how it would feel trying to go into 1st at 25mph (and being locked out), and as the car slowed, you wait and slighly press forward until it finally is slow enough to slip into gear.

I own an AT FRS so can't do an exact tutorial unfortunately.

DISCLAIMER: IF YOU FUCK YOUR CAR UP BASED ON THIS IT ISN"T MY FAULT. This is a basic explanation not a how to based on what I did to prior cars. Consult a wiring diagram and as always, ymmv with results.

But on my other cars there are usually 2-3 wires that run to the clutch pedal. 2 of those complete the circuit showing the clutch is fully pressed. If you get a quick splice and connect them the car thinks its always pressed down and you can start it without physically pressing it.

Dang, that sucks. Can't imagine not being able to do that.

It isn’t a matter of practicing double clutching or rev matching. I’m sure the synchro or gear is physically damaged from the previous owner.

What is BS?

The car will downshift quickly, but it will grind. The corrected quote, which what was inplied following the rest of the conversation, was that the car won’t downshift from 6th to 5th quickly without grinding.

Yep. My point is that it sucks yours grinds doing that. Mine is smooth, assuming I downshift correctly.

(PSA) If you're considering a BRZ I personally don't recommend it

If it will go into gear with the car off it will go in (without a grind) if synchronized manually. The syncros don’t do anything if you already matched the input shaft to the output shaft. If something was so damaged like you say then you wouldn’t be able to shift it into 5th at all.
