hmmm...I'm not trying to start anything or say that I know anything...but the much more attractive facia as people say.

How much of that is really change that really helps with the idea of improving something?

From my stand point, Subaru is just trying to get the BRZ to conform to the rest of it's 2017-2018 line up. For example take a look at the Spy shots of the BRZ(we think it looks close to the STI concept) but upon closer examination, the facia is similar to say their new Impreza. The chances that we'll get something with 300hp Sti concept like I think is pretty low,but not far off.

The new BRZ front has Alittle change under the headlight( which now looks just like their new Legacy,Impreza,Outback concepts) and some changes to the bumper front molding. Otherwise, it's the exact same BRZ Facia from 2013.

Meanwhile on Toyota side, it's a totally different design things like the nose facia, the rounded curves, Sure it's pretty ugly but from seeing it in person, it seems definitely more functional than aesthetics. So... just because it looks better, can we truly say it will be better?

I don't think so, I think it will be just about the same as last time differences being looks and suspension tuning. You're practically will be paying for few better items like last time, and a Subaru face.

these are my educated opinions, as long as both cars comes out and they sell well to everyone I'm happy.Once more I'll wait to see the real thing before passing any judgement.

It would be interesting to see some sticky tires from the factory, even if they were Dunlops like on the WRX/STI. Some Michelin Pilot Super Sports would be amazing. Then gen 1.5 could break away from the Hachi Roku Dorifto King crowd and be a little more serious. Let the new 86 carry that torch...

Stickier tires from the factory: = less poweroversteer with stock NA engine power at safer/slower speeds (some customers might expect ease of getting rear out even as stock, due all that hachiroku drift legacy thing, no?), worse specced/claimed fuel mileage numbers (imho those are measured using stock tires, no?), not sure, but maybe slightly also exhaust check results (more fuel burnt should affect it, no?) .. so in general i highly doubt for that to ever happen.
Also i don't see it being limitation/drawback. One will go through many tires set during car life, even more so if car will be taken to track and/or if drifting and imho it's not that bad to familiarize with car/learn it's capabilities first with limited grip primacies.

I thought they already switched to an all season version of the primacy.

Yes indeed. It has happened in the past. It would be great if they managed this. From my point of view it is just weird that the new car has a much more advanced suspension (in Tada words) and rims & tires with the old specs. It doesn't make sense. Personally I would expect a 225 tire like the one in the BRZ tS.

If the web is correct, the new car will feature a stiffer rear subframe and switching the shocks from Showa to Sachs.

When they originally developed the 86/BRZ, they had both Showa and Sachs developing the shocks, and in the end they went with Showa (most likely for cost reasons) and the Sachs version became a Toyota optional accessory in Japan by the 2nd model year. Most likely they are just going with the optional damper on the new car.

On the Japanese blogs they also mentioned the original BRZ tS went with Showa shocks to keep the cost low, but the 2nd version switched to Bilstein monotubes with inverted front struts to increase performance.

Looks like Toyota/Subaru will get a good 10 year run on this car (usually that's how long a good design era will last anyway) and it'll become another legend afterwards.

I wish somebody can sub this video into English (I can't understand Japanese), check out the familiar faces involved in this discussion to talk about the various design philosophies undertaken by the different Japanese manufacturers of the sports car (Toyota, Subaru, Honda, Nissan, Mazda):

why would they have to be a little sticky? that makes no sense
if you are talking about traction, "sticky" has little to do with that
traction is mostly from the friction

No they don't. There is plenty of grip if you drive right. More importantly, that's what makes them so fun stock.

The car is design to be a fun everyday car. You want grip for track or autox you can just buy some other tires yourself. Want grip + good comfort? Get PSS.

Ps: I don't like PSS after getting them. They are just too soft, thou I can't complain about how comfy they are. Don't forget tires are just wearables that you can change depending on your needs & wants.

You mean too soft as in too much grip?

Did you keep the stock tire size with the PSS? What exactly don't you like about them? Can't slip the tires as much as you'd like?

Pretty much? I went up to 225 & It's not hard to slide around if I wanted to. I just feel they are on the softer side as it dampens out some of the infos I feel. Or I should say it's not like "telepathic"? Atleast I feel delays @ limit & I don't think they are the kind tires you wanna drive on when you try to go 9/10th;10/10th cuz you sort have to guess it @ limit. (Or I just have to upgrade suspension? Probably too much slop in stock suspensions.)

They are excellent daily tires. Not only they are quiet/comfy, they offer amazing tractions in both dry & wet as well. (My god the wet traction is so good...) But I'm gonna try different tires next time, I guess I learned that Tires is always about compromise.

One can slide even on wide slicks. Question being - will that be as easy and at as low/safer speeds and in progressive fashion? One thing is getting rear out at 40kmh, another - at 100+kmh with 1g side G. Not each and every potential owner for these cars will be heavy track junkie with good skills. Not even majority of them. Hence why should manufacturer go with what minority may wish for slight savings at initial purchase (and track junkies may wear through quickly 1st tire set anyway, and also may have different preferences as to which tires are 'best' brand/model/width wise for track or daily use) and even more so that it's so easy to buy & use whatever tires you want if you don't like stock ones?
