Firestone Firehawk Indy 500, it should last long enough unless you are really serious about tracking and if you are new to tracking then don't even worry about it.
Know that you don't wanna pick cheap Ultra High performance tires for "stock daily with some spirited driving/autocross" because the car's ride quality really suffer from it. Last edited by chaoskaze; 09-22-2018 at 04:53 PM. |

Why are people suggesting the firehawk indy 500?
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=235 It has worse stopping distance over the Falken and Generals (dry & wet), worse slalom & lap times (but I don't understand why they Firestone rated handling higher), large loss of performance in wet vs dry compared the Falken & General. I wonder what equipment they used to measure the subjective parts of the TireRack test.

Then again getting the car a little loose is fun for me. From reviews and all that (from when I was looking a year ago at least lol) I think the hankooks might be my summer set next year. |

In happy with my Indy 500s, I feel like they're 90% of MPSS for 60% of the price. I've only autocross them once, the breakaway characteristics remind me of the OE primacy and it felt less sudden than stickier tires I've been on, MPSS, Z2SS and RE71R. They're my 'if I end up at the track I'll use these and not feel bad about chewing them up' tires + DD.

I'm not at all claiming to be a scientist, but I have been running the Hankooks on my wife's car and enjoy that same safe feeling in the rain. They're far more tolerant of cold pavement as well than the Falkens. The Falkens didn't seem to have much more dry grip to offer, certainly not enough to warrant the purchase on a car that would not see autocross or track duty. Edit: had the Falkens on for about 5 months, maybe 4800 miles. I bought the Hankooks the following spring and gave the Falkens to a friend who needed them. Ran the Hankooks off and on for a couple years, I swapped wheels/tires for when I wanted grip. For what it's worth, neither tire held a candle to the Dunlop Direzza StarSpec Z1.. this was also around 2011. Last 4 years on Hankooks on my wife's car have been great, so that experience is relevant |

All this while not even mentioning confounding issues/any standardization between utilization/settings. Yes there will be the occasional true and diligent reviewer, but these rare submissions will get buried under the masses of anecdotal largely meaningless survey submissions. I hold no brand loyalty and I would rather pick the best/better tire at a good price. Simple maximizing monetary value.
