Firestone Firehawk Indy 500, it should last long enough unless you are really serious about tracking and if you are new to tracking then don't even worry about it.

Know that you don't wanna pick cheap Ultra High performance tires for "stock daily with some spirited driving/autocross" because the car's ride quality really suffer from it.

Why are people suggesting the firehawk indy 500?

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=235

It has worse stopping distance over the Falken and Generals (dry & wet), worse slalom & lap times (but I don't understand why they Firestone rated handling higher), large loss of performance in wet vs dry compared the Falken & General.

I wonder what equipment they used to measure the subjective parts of the TireRack test.

Can you share a bit more about the experience? How long you had them, the vehicle, climate, etc.

???

I'm sure firestone is rated higher cuz it's more comfortable and treadwear is better.

This. ^^

On a car like this, I wouldn't necessarily want the best performance numbers, but rather the quickest response. TireRack typically mixes this in with some other stuff under the Handling category. Then again getting the car a little loose is fun for me.

From reviews and all that (from when I was looking a year ago at least lol) I think the hankooks might be my summer set next year.

In happy with my Indy 500s, I feel like they're 90% of MPSS for 60% of the price. I've only autocross them once, the breakaway characteristics remind me of the OE primacy and it felt less sudden than stickier tires I've been on, MPSS, Z2SS and RE71R. They're my 'if I end up at the track I'll use these and not feel bad about chewing them up' tires + DD.

Firestone was rated 3rd by TireRack. Generals 1st, Falken 2nd.

Vehicle was a 1993 325i, climate was Vermont summer into fall, so temps between 80 and 30, a lot of rain. Winters go on before snow hits.

I found that the Fallen tires had a very hard time remaining compliant on adverse road conditions much more so than the Hankooks tires. On damp roads with a bit of dirt strewn across (an intersection for example) the Falkens gave way under acceleration while turning marginally sooner than the Hankooks tires did. The compound might be harder, my tire pressures were consistent (I tend to run 30psi rear, 32 front until I have time to test different pressures) but I can say in all wet conditions, the Hankooks was more trustworthy. I'm not talking about me trying to drift or autocross; just driving spirited to find the thresholds of the tires.

I'm not at all claiming to be a scientist, but I have been running the Hankooks on my wife's car and enjoy that same safe feeling in the rain. They're far more tolerant of cold pavement as well than the Falkens. The Falkens didn't seem to have much more dry grip to offer, certainly not enough to warrant the purchase on a car that would not see autocross or track duty.

Edit: had the Falkens on for about 5 months, maybe 4800 miles. I bought the Hankooks the following spring and gave the Falkens to a friend who needed them. Ran the Hankooks off and on for a couple years, I swapped wheels/tires for when I wanted grip. For what it's worth, neither tire held a candle to the Dunlop Direzza StarSpec Z1.. this was also around 2011. Last 4 years on Hankooks on my wife's car have been great, so that experience is relevant

You not reading the graph, dry time it's as fast as the fastest tires.

I don't think you wanna push your car when it's wet since you are asking these questions.

look at how ppl rates all the summer tires in the same segment, a review from a website is always just a review.

What do you mean I am not reading the graph? You clearly don't understand what it says on the graph and even misinterpreted it. Firestone is tied with Falkens for fastest dry times, but the third* in wet. Why would you pay for a tire that you know performs worse and costs more?
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=235

It isn't about having the intention of pushing the car in the wet, its about choosing the better tire.
Seeing how wet 50-0 MPH braking was 125.9 ft with the Firestones vs 103.60 with the Falkens; 2 ft shorter braking in dry with the Falkens, I really see no reason to pick Firestones. Firestones also had worse slalom times than the Falkens.

Survey results holds no weight compared to actual testing. Especially when the survey is coming from the general populace** instead of professionals with serious time using the various tires. Not to mention that survey you shared doesn't even have the Falkens FK510 or General G-MAX RS. Most of the people that submitted their survey have no actual experience with other tires as well. I prefer enthusiasts' opinions over the general reviews on vendor sites. Most of them just say, "Tire X was better than my stock ones. Best tire ever!" and give it top scores. All this while not even mentioning confounding issues/any standardization between utilization/settings. Yes there will be the occasional true and diligent reviewer, but these rare submissions will get buried under the masses of anecdotal largely meaningless survey submissions.

I hold no brand loyalty and I would rather pick the best/better tire at a good price. Simple maximizing monetary value.

Yeah. Light on its feet at the expense of ultimate grip.
