Makes sense.

Part of it, I think, is there were many similar animes before. So for people who've been into anime for a while, they probably saw them and prefer them as well. Like .Hack I think?

Something I didn't like about SAO after reading the light novels is that even though the translation to anime was almost 100%, they didn't include all the short stories.

There's one in particular in the beginning that actually somewhat better explains the main character and why he handles things a certain way.

But by excluding character-building stories it kind of makes some stuff not as good.

Yeah... anime will never win against LN. Like Hollywood will never win against the book. I've read SAO LN (in Japanese) and I do agree they should of added some of side and short story in the series... but they have limited episodes, so they had to cut those out. BUT they should of put it in as an extra feature in DVD/BD.

Super jealous you can read them in japanese. Have you read/watched Accel World?

I'm delayed on both because for a while I was using the unofficial translations, but I think those slowed way down, and tbh I don't buy real manga/LN books so I don't really want to buy the English ones, or I would, but if I could buy them as ebooks at least.

I've watched AW, but read it. I know it's related to SAO (iirc several yrs after SAO), but couldn't get into it.

If you like SAO series, you might like SAO Alternative GGO. Writer is different and I thought it was pretty good read. Last season they brought it into anime and anime was done closely to the LN. I was listening their radio and said that writer: Sigsawa went to every episode making to make sure it's close to the LN as much as it can be.

Another good LN or anime is Overlord. Same concept as Log Horizon & other recent Digital world turn into real word, but this series is one good... REALLY GOOD. I'm usually fan of light happy kinda series and Overlord is totally opposite, but it's good.

I must be getting old....... didn't watch anything new but still just overlord as most of the new stuff doesn't interest me one bit.

actually I watched a bit of chibi maruko for memories, old theme songs are so nice & catchy.

Too bad chibimaruko is likely gonna be just memories from now unlike doraemon where they are still making new ones....... Thank you Sakura momoko, thank you for those childhood memories that i had while eating at dinning table.

Yeah passing away of Sakura Momoko is sad sad news. She wasn't old either. (early 50's)

I always enjoy watching Maru-chan every time when I went back to Japan.

Yes, Grand Blue is amazing! I love Cakey (Aina) the most.

That part didn't bother me. The guy earned that cucking. But I'm at episode 22 and the story lost me. It just went too fast. I need to rewatch the last couple episodes and restart. Doesn't help I'm playing Destiny while trying to watch anime. Some shows I can do that. Not grancrest.

This is kind of an anime related question... I was thinking of a tattoo I might get, which is weird for me, but I've always been at least a little curious. I've just never found anything I like enough to make the commitment, until now. But... Are kanji tattoos too cliched?

Also, anyone really good with kanji? I don't want to end up with a bad translation, because that is cliched and terrible and would suck.
