Reason your wrx used oil is completely different. Not to mention what makes you think that subaru/toyota did not test this thing for hours under temps well over what you guys are talking about. I mean give these companies some credit they pay these engineers for something...

well in minnesota your climate is much more temperate. 0-w20 makes sense for cold starting etc. Arizona most definitely qualifies as an extreme climate. In the end just do what works or you're comfortable with. Using rotella also simplifies my life because I can use it in both my cars as the rex is still around, I am not giving up my EJ207 anytime soon.

Your bugeye also spec'd 5-30. 0-20 is much thinner, you're making a really big step going from 0-20 to 5-40. You may want to try 5-30 first.

Im aware that our climate is much different. What Im saying is don't you think they took all these things into account when they decided that 0-20 was the best oil to run in that motor? that 5w-40 is going to be awfully thick oil for a motor with already fairly high compression.

A lot of the track twins run 60 weight oil, I'm going to the track fairly regularly so the change also makes sense given my application .

Well I honestly think that gas mileage was their main concern when they thought of oil weight

I've switched to Mobil 1 0w-40, euro formula. It still uses PAO base stocks.
Government mandates for fuel efficiency are the primary reason for the light weight oil. It certainly wasn't for engine longevity.
If I was to still run 0w-20, it would likely be Eneos Sustina.

just google this guy--> @viscositosis.rex 's post. LOL

If you don't like how oem oil thin out give motul a try? That oil felt so thick in my engine... thou weight is the same 0w-20.
