Why do people drive fast in the rain/snow?

I've seen a few drivers that drive way above the speed limit on the freeway when it is raining. For example going 80mph in a 65mph zone tailgating and abruptly changing lanes in medium to heavy rain conditions. I've seen this happen with average cars and luxury sedans.

Why do they drive as if they are on dry tarmac? Is it because they are ignorant and never wrecked or spun out on a wet surface and feel as they are invincible? Do they think they have the skill and vehicle ability to drive in that manner? Or is it because they are late and need to get their as fast as possible regardless of the the road conditions.

I sure as heck wouldn't drive the FR-S like I stole it in the rain because are our cars already likes to spin the tires and I wouldn't push it on wet roads.

What is your take on this guys? Have any of you ever wondered why do some people drive this way when it is snowing or raining?

And they changed all of their fluids. It seems that these two things fix all evils with a vehicle.

I always just assume they're too inexperienced to know the thrill of thinking you're hydroplaning to your death.

Up in Minnesota, we see SUV's in the ditch all the time. I've been a "professional driver" most of my adult life. You have to drive according to the conditions....and watch out for the other guy!

First snow fall, every freaking year...SUV's all over the ditches!

You'd think that this wouldn't happen seeing they were driving in snow 8 months prior.

My wife and I make a game of it and try to guess who we will be passing in the ditch upstream. lol

Usually in SLC the first snowfall is light and barely sticks. Everyone creeps along like it's the new apocalypse, so they all think that they've got their snow legs back and they're good to go. Then when the real snow hits and starts icing the roads over, they drive like idiots and crash.

Should have seen it when we got a little bit of snow a couple weeks ago.
It wasn't even that bad and people were abandoning their cars on the side of the road and I saw 2 cars flipped over...

LOL! How little self confidence does it take to just totally clock out and abandon your vehicle?
