Is swap...? Did you mean to say LS and got autocorrected? If so, I would agree that it is the best V8 motor to use. It has a ton of aftermarket support, it is Pure Automotive supported in their swap kit (as an option), and it is compact, so it fits while being still serviceable. The problem is that he wants to keep the engine in the family of Subaru or Toyota. Basically the ones to choose would be the 1JZ/2JZ, the 8AR-FTS 2.0T straight 4, the 2GR-FSE 3.5NA V6, the 1UZ-FE 4.0NA V8 and if he could swing it the 2UR-GSE 5.0LNA V8. If he went with Subaru then he should just build and turbo the FA20 over a swap. I feel like a supercharged 2GR would be cool except the Lotus guys would say you were biting their style.

Lol, maybe I should have clarified. This isn't my first engine swap, just the engine swap for my first car. I'm mainly doing research into what my possibilities are before planning everything out.

Right now my favorites are the 2JZ, 2GR and 2UR I can probably get a 2GR-FSE for the least amount of money out of them all with decently low milage, though the 2GR would require some sort of forced induction. The 2JZ would also cost less than the 2UR. The lightest of the options would be the 2GR sitting pretty at about 360lb. The 2UR, though the biggest, sits at only about 400lb. Then the 2JZ really takes the cake at about 590lb. Granted the 2JZ was probably weighed with the 2 turbos. In the end I would probably go for the 2JZ if I want to go the "easy" route or I would go for the 2UR if I wanted something a bit more unique, though with how long these cars have been out, I wouldn't doubt it that someone somewhere has already done it before me. I would probably make my final decision based on whether or not I can get a friend of mine to help me out, though I'm assuming I will do this alone for now. Thanks |

Remember the 2jz has an iron block with virtually a closed deck, so that is a lot of the weight, and the turbo assembly, as you said, is heavy. An aftermarket single could be lighter. |

I'd swap to a flat-4 2.0 with Al block and heads and a high redline.

If you do decide to go with a 2jz, PM me. I have a spreadsheet of prices I paid for everything and where I bought it all.

If you are looking for a project to have fun, that is fine. If you are looking for a car more fun to drive, I would just find a Cayman or Exige.
