My question is should i go to subaru dealer to do it or any shop that does the job will b fine? if so, any recommendation for the shops in south bay? im located in sunnyvale/mountain view/palo alto,cupertino/san jose area.

I would wait until 5k. Multiple people posted their initial UOI and it's been proven that the factory fill is good stuff and OK to keep around until 5k.

However, if you are stuck on changing it at 3k, I would do it yourself and definitely avoid the dealership.

Actually you change oil every 7500 miles. I work for Toyota and that's what they recommended for the FRS. Should be the same for BRZ.

Without getting into arguments about when to change oil, there are a few shops other than the dealer.

Mann Engineering is in San Jose ( @Speed Element is too but I don't know if they do regular maintenance). There is also Edge Motorworks in Mountain View

Send a message via AIM to Speed Element
Thank you for mentioning us Finch1750.

We do perform regular maintenance services for FRS/BRZ. Give us a call at the shop if you would like to set up an appointment for an oil change for your car.

Thank you,
Jason

Mine didn't even hit 5k before I did my first one. I hit 7 months though since I don't drive it that often. I carpool with my wife so our daily is our automatic car.

No matter where you do the service, create the my subaru account and log all your services: http://www.subaru.com/owners/index.html

That's for future reference in case you need to bring the car to the dealer for bigger service and the dealer asks for record

Do the oil change yourself. It'll make you appreciate the car more. Yes, you'll probably spend less getting it changed at some shop, but doing it yourself will yield you the experience-- which in return is priceless. Also, I recommend changing your engine oil every 5k - 7k miles as well.
