A rotational firing order simply means that each cylinder fires through the 4-1 merge collector through adjacent ports on the collector. This rotational firing order results in the best possible exhaust gas scavenging effect for the next cylinder in line.

It's nice having a dyno inside of an enclosed sound abatement chamber. It allows us to dyno tune round the clock without the cops showing up. Anyhow, as promised, we have dyno numbers for you guys.

Since everyone and their mother runs a header with some sort of exhaust system in place, we decided to do the same. Since we don't offer a 2.5" overpipe or front pipe, we decided to test our header with our 3" header-back exhaust system. This was intended to be used with front mount turbo systems, but the results here weren't too shabby. We just need to figure out what combination of additional resonators and mufflers are needed to keep the volume down a bit.

We kept the variables low by running a completely stock airbox and filter. The inlet snorkel and rubber intake pipe are also OEM and unmodified. The car was tuned using ECUTek on 93 pump gas.

The dyno numbers were achieved with ambient temps in the 75-77F range as verified by the dyno AIT sensor and an external air temp sensor box. Dynoruns for this car are always done in 5th gear (1:1). A stock FR-S/BRZ puts down around 160whp on our dyno. We'll post a dyno sheet tomorrow with a baseline for referencing.

The cams were dialed in to within 5 degrees. I would have gone down to 2-3 degrees, but at 5 degree increments I already found myself having to jump out of the car after each dyno pull to get a close up of the dyno monitor once we were near our target cam setting. BTW, for those that don't know, the high resolution data plotted by a Dyno Dynamics dyno allows you to analyze every pixel that gets plotted on the screen since it does not use a smoothing algorithm to plot a dyno curve.

Since a lot of folks going the NA route autocross and track their cars, we also wanted to test the header to 8k rpms to see if there was still enough usable power on tap to allow you to stay in gear without having to up shift or bounce of the rev limiter. The results were definitely acceptable given that 180whp was still available near 8k.

All in all our 4-1 Race Header performed extremely well and quite honestly, even exceeded our expectations.

Wow! This looks awesome. Please take my money, I would love to be one of the first ones to run this header!

@ptuning do you have the dyno graph showing before and after? I'm keen to see a comparison of the torque and power curves.

Also, do you have a timeline of when you might be offering an OFT map for those who aren't using ecutek?

Just so I am clear, you tested this car with bolting on your header and 3" headerback exhaust and gained 40whp according to your dyno with tuning as well?

IMHO, the best way to implement a high flow cat would be on the front pipe.

Since there will be some folks that are naturally skeptical, given how some manufacturers only seem to post just a single "glory dyno-pull" that no one can ever seem to replicate, we thought we'd post a few more dyno sheets. In all, we made about 35-40+ dyno pulls over 195whp after tuning commenced.

Here are just 27 (3 runs per sheet) more dyno pulls for reference.

Also, WITHOUT a tune, we only managed to put down 173.xxwhp with our full header-back exhaust set-up. Hopefully, this sheds some light on the need to tune with a header. The stock tune is WAY too rich and the cam timing needs to be properly optimized. Below is a stock baseline, PTUNING 4-1 Header and 3" Exhaust with and without dyno tuning.
