Well, I've been driving legally on the highways for 60 years now. I've driven in nine European countries, Canada and every state of the US, except Alaska.

What I've learned over the years is simply not to drive any faster than the speed limit.

An old preacher, back in Missouri, once said "why race other people on the highway, you're most likely not going to the same place anyway?"

100%

All that speeding on the street does is get you booked or dead, or worse, someone else dead because you were a ****

Send them excuses through, but remember, excuses are like arse holes, everyone's got one

Who was it that said pushing the bad actors out as a community is better than banning them? They were right, it worked!

(This is also a joke, for the serious among us)

Then we got into a conversation about how accurate it was and if really got me with it. He let me shoot a car with it to see how it works. No ticket and just a warning to slow down a little. Probably a little over the 55 mph safe zone in the 45 mph road by me.
As mentioned before there are bad apples in every industry and I got one that wasn't a d-bag that day. He was younger so maybe he just wasn't in long enough to get the cop attitude? That stop made me respect law enforcement more than ever knowing that they all aren't out to get us. I actually started watching my speed more after that stop so it appears as if he actually knew what he was doing maybe?

I used to skateboard when I was younger so between skateboarding and driving I’ve had a gazillion encounters with them and 99% of them were cool.

The "super speeder" law is really part of the speeding fine but instead of going to the jurisdiction it goes to the state. The actual law is if you are speeding over 75MPH on a two lane or over 85MPH on an Interstate then this is added to it. There is no relevance to the actual speed on the highway, so for example on parts of Georgia's interstate where the speed varies from 55 to 70 miles an hour and you are doing 85, you could be 30MPH over, or 15. Also, in Georgia, if your ticket is less than 15 MPH over the limit there are no points associated with the fine.

I usually stay within 10MPH of the speed limit but never over 80MPH on the interstate.

There is zero percent dumb assiness in a ticket for going 10-15MPH over the speed limit. You are breaking the law, by a significant amount, and if you get stopped you'll have your day in court, but you know you were breaking the law.

I recently got a ticket for going 72 in a 55. It was on a 4 lane separated highway that I rarely drive out in the middle of nowhere. The speed limit had been 65 and I missed where it went to 55 as it was entering a congested area. Cop pulled me over, and he gave me a ticket. I thanked him for his service to the community, then talked about it with a lawyer but ultimately decided it wasn't worth fighting because first I was speeding (my own fault there is a HUGE speed limit sign with a yellow surround warning of the change, I just missed it) and the ticket was a quarter the price of legal representation.

Unfortunately I couldn't go to court on the scheduled date or the second reschedule date so I now have two points, the first time I've had points in 25 years. I may go to traffic school to eliminate it, as you can do that in Georgia once every 5 years.

None of this was the officer's fault and it wasn't a dumb ass ticket, just a dumb ass driver.

That's correct. The additional "super speeder" fine comes after conviction at the municipal court and is separate. You'll receive that notice in the mail I believe if found guilty of speeding and the speed of the plea is over the limit for the law.

If you refer to the link in my previous post you'll see the details:

Payment of a $50 reinstatement fee in addition to the $200 Super Speeder fee will then be required to reinstate their license or driving privileges.

Yeah I got the super speeder notice long after I had already paid my ticket. It sounded fishy to me so I googled it and found a lot of people complaining about it. But it was legit and I obviously payed it.

In Florida you basically get run over if not doing at least 85. In most states that sounds extreme but here it’s basically the norm and cops normally don’t care. I just have to remind my self when leaving the state that you don’t add 15 to the speed limit on the interstate anymore. Atlanta is a different story. You get run over if not doing 85-90.

Not sure I agree. I've leaved in South Florida (and visit frequently now) and in Georgia. People run over the speed limit as they do in most states but I don't find it worse there than anywhere else. As mentioned above, I rarely exceed 10MPH over the speed limit and have never had an issue in either.

Do I get passed, sure, but I've also gotten passed doing just about any speed short of 100MPH.

Yeah even Waze won't get the rollers. Situational Awareness is key. Although I saw a Nissan Altima with red lights and sirens in NY the other day... not sure I would pick up on that one. I think it was a personal car though because they usually only use American made stuff. He was screaming too like (I hope) it was a legit emergency. You'd have to really be driving like an asshole to get someone to work on their day off.
