Looks like I'll have to pay someone to do this for me, any takers??

I didn't know the boomerang LEDs were so underpowered.
I am so doing this. I do stuff like this all the time. I think I have some Arctic silver lying around too.

Why did you choose that regulator? They seem to have others that are cheaper, smaller, non-dimming, and more efficient. You don't need such a wide output voltage range. Like this one, so long as you don't mind soldering wires to a SMD.

Whats the Vf for the LEDs at 700mA BTW? Did you measure it?

Yep. But the same rule applies: you have to be able to have the headlights apart for a few days.

It is true there are other choices for this application. I personally chose the unit I did because it's a "potted" unit. In an automotive application, vibrations are the archenemy of solder joints. Since the wires are integrated into the housing, all of the mechanical stress is handled by the wire insulation and not the solder joint between the wire and the board. It's a few bucks more, but I believe it will be much more reliable in the long run. It eliminates one more potential point of failure. Call it insurance.

So what kind of led would you get to replace the factory ones? I kinda want mine to be either yellow, blue, or red.
