If you choose skimp on some things, I think you could do 13k. Again, this is for everything new. If you had a motor that was fine and just wanted to replace some stuff in it, I'm not sure what that would be.

Curious what supporting mods would be needed for adequate motor strengthening/improvement? Rods, pistons, bearings, valves/springs etc?

Are you saying $15k for just the motor?? Or everything in your build (sc, fuel pump, injectors, oil coolers, etcetc)

Element tuning has race motors in the $5k to $7.5k range

Prob not 15k for just the motor. I assume it includes labor and tuning and everything thing else so it runs right. Not too bad really. It cost money to build.

That cost assumes you sent them a fully serviceable long block. Shipping, a new long block, installation, a new tune, taxes, etc. and you're going to be where we're saying.

Yes, rods, pistons, bearings, valve springs, valve guides, valves, machine work, chamfer oil passages etc. these aren't supporting mods though. This is the engine build. My oil cooler is likely full of metal, since it is full of antifreeze, it'll have to be replaced. My upgraded clutch isn't going to be upgraded enough. I'll need axles. I'm buying the c38 upgrade. I need motor mounts. And, I need an improvement or replacement to transmission. I will be over that 5k mark if I replace/upgrade the transmission- which I will. But, that I didn't consider a supporting mod to the engine. It's a transmission thing. I could baby the stock transmission to get by, plus I have a spare. The engine could go more than 12k too, depending on what else is damaged. The coolant fitting that runs under the intake manifold but on top of the engine is blown apart. Timing cover might be a loss. Heads might be unsalvageable. It could go 15k just for the engine.

They can source a used serviceable engine in the $2500 range. That puts their long block, super stout, big valve, 9000 rpm monster in the $10000 range. Plus any labor and tuning plus supporting mods.

Shipping, taxes, installation, supporting mods etc. put you at 13 to 15k. In Cali taxes alone are about 1k and labor is like 1-2k, so that's 12-13k assuming no tune or supporting mods... But who does that? You'll want those mounts, oil pump, fuel pump, tune, etc. That's like another 1.5k already, not including is you want to upgrade your clutch, add oil cooler, and other jazz.

I am already in the middle of my engine build. My prices are from my experience. As I mentioned before, 12k for engine, plus around 5k for supporting mods. With a chance of fair to partly "gotta buy more stuff" for the engine itself. No shipping or tax where I live and with my builder. My engine will be a high rpm engine as well.

Ah, in my reply I transposed you with the other fellow thinking the cost was a bit high. My build experience is similar to yours.

Thanks. All of this is making me think that maybe I should just trade in for used stingray..... :-(

Though at least for me, Element is local. They quoted me around $9k for the installed built motor.
