I think its a good move for Porsche. I'd like to see more of the German and Italian manufacturers make cars that fall under 50K so the average Joe could afford something special.

As it stands now, most of us will not even sit in a 911 let alone drive one. I'd like to drive some of the supercars that adorn many of the car magazines - Ferrari and Lamborghini or a Bugatti and even a Tesla S... /sigh

I like supercars as much as the next guy - but I usually look at them the same way I look a Fighter Jet... they are are certainly cool, but I'll never be able to own/drive/fly one. Ever. Just not in the cards for most of us.

Affordability, for that reason alone the twins are a tremendous value. I'd like to see what any of the supercar manufacturers could do with a sub 30K car... and then see how it compares with the twins. I feel safe to say it would be a close race.

A year in now.

Still love my car.

Still hate the damn torque dip.

Still not ready to drop more cash on it to fix the torque dip. Cant decide to stay NA or go FI plus there is a lot of fluctuating in the tuner market. Waiting for things to stabilize.

I'm 28 and bought the car a month ago; Came from the non-turbo bastard child impreza (2007 2.5i)

I tought my fiance how to drive this car and after I did, she asked me if we could buy her one. She said it's the first time she's wanted to be a car girl. The way people locally look at us. The way I smile and feel in the car.

Every day is like christmas for me. I felt like I waited for Santa for 6 years as the car went from all talk in a forum of "they are building a rwd STI" to concept drawings to this...

I found this community the day I bought the car. Though I cannot speak for the other chapters, The AZ crew has been amazing. The entire state helps each other, has meet ups, passes information and is just super positive with each other. It feels like a family more than faces and that's pretty chill, if you ask me.

As for breaking out the ruler for some **** measuring -- there is no need. People love this car. People hate this car. People love to hate this car. Fuck 'em. Shift to 5th and let the bitch ride. Emme speaks enough for herself without me having to say anything for her. And she's all stock minus a shark fin.

Just got back from a 10 day 3000 mile trip from Florida to the mountains of NC and Tenn. My wife just had shoulder surgery and is wearing a splint/cast. We were both very comfortable even with numerous 10 hour days in the car. We were able to put luggage for a week in the trunk without putting down the seats. We of course did the Tail of the Dragon. I have been driving this road since the late 1960's and have been on it with every kind of vehicle, both 2 wheeled and 4 wheeled. I have to say that this was the best run over the Dragon I have ever had. We hit the Dragon about 5pm and it had rained earlier in the day and the road was empty. The trees were still leafless and that allowed me to see several curves ahead to know there was no oncoming traffic. I was thus able to "cut" the corners and averaged 50mph on the run. There were sections that I have had many cars up on 2 or 3 wheels and the FRS was planted like she was on rails. Got lots of people who had no idea what the car was. One guy thought that it was the Nissan GTR and another thought it was an LFA. Everyone loved it though. I ran the car hard the whole trip and averaged 33.2 mpg's with my 6 spd AT overall for the trip. What a great car. I have put 10K on her since January and she just seems to get better.

Thanks, it is 20% tint. Painting the lower rear valence panel adds to the look.

I get to resurrect a thread!

One year today.
Ended up at 31,000miles but my long commute was cut in half for 4 months while the plant was shutdown. Will more then make up the average over the next 3months by doubling the trips.
Not one single issue (I do not consider the rare crickets or rattles as issues)
Oil changed per requirements but still on the original tranny oil and still with silky smooth shifting.
Tires look OK but had snows on it for a third of the time I have had it so not a good indicator.
Front bumper looks like it was hit by a bomb blast but that is due to so much highway time and the number of debris hits I have taken. Rest of the paint has some random chips but nothing worse then the last 4 or 5 cars I have had.
Inside looks like a well used cab and most of you would be appalled but spending 14 hours a week in it and only cleaning it once a month will have that result.
Still very happy and the best damned DD I ever had.

Just realized that I took delivery on 8/6!

I think I missed this thread the first time around, but thanks for the resurrection. I read the OP and I'm in 10% agreement. I'm 45 and have had this car for 2+ years now. I got it as a commuter but with the kid out of the house it seemed like a good opportunity to get something fun which I hadn't had since my '73 2002 about 25 years ago. I also have no need to compare wangs or race to the next stop light.

I love this car. I love to drive it. I love the way it looks just sitting there. I love launching it into a corner and it just goes where I point.

Like the OP, I considered Mustang, Camaro, Challenger (overpriced and HEAVY). I also went towards WRX for a bit (pricey, but cool) as well as 370Z (pricey, kind of weird looking). I test drove the FR-S and immediately went home to start explaining to my spouse why this was what we needed in our life.

She grudgingly agreed, but today she really does have fun riding in it.

This thread hits the nail on the head! I thought I would hate the 86 when I first joined because of the Flat 4 but ended up loving the engine with the flaws and all that comes with it.

Ya, I had a choice of 3 different "Had it a year" threads to resurrect but this one had the best theme to start with.
