I always tell my wife, "That car there must really be trying to shed weight... Damn thing doesn't appear to a single indicator/blinker on it!" Or if it is a really new vehicle, "Must have chosen not to get the blinker option installed..."

It basically makes shifting "easier" by carrying more kinetic energy and momentum and makes shifting a little smoother too. But really, it's like using training wheels on a bicycle. Real drivers don't need a weighted shift knob.
