Anyone taken apart the (BRZ) DRL's yet?

Anyone taken apart the BRZ DRL yet?

As the title states. Has anyone taken apart the BRZ's led daylight running lamps yet? Painted the insides? The only pictures I can find are of people that have put on smoke/yellow lens overlays.

Curious to know if they come apart like the headlamps.

I wish there were an aftermarket LED strip that extends further and is just a straight line rather than the LED dots. For that Porsche Cayman look.

I took them apart when I pulled the bumper to blackout headlights/ add color changing headlights and demon eyes. I wanted to add rgb led strips to the drls so essentially they'd run as drls but I would have the ability to color match them with my halos. The lights are on a board and to it looked the only way to do it was to completely destroy the stock led board by either just sticking the rgb led strip to it and wiring that up or by pulling the board completely and just sticking the led strip in the openings left in the reflector. None of this was up to my standards as far as looking like it came that way so I decided against it

Let me start by saying beautiful car! Tastefully modded!
What did you use to make the turn signals look yellow? film or was it a spray?

i used duplicolor metalcast yellow to paint the blinker and krylon fusion black paint for the rest of the headlight. metalcast is great if you want to paint and red out your tailights as well! can get it from autozone. be very careful though because if you put too many coats of yellow it goes from being hte color i have, to almost amber and you'll have to sand it down and start over (ask me how i know )

i tried to Lamin-X the DRL first but the countours are so tight it didn't stick after a few day and lifted off. Painting is really the only way to go, the trick is to wetsand and take your time and to make sure you have a very good UV clear coat on it so that it doesn't fade and chip to shit.

Thank you for the compliments, if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask!

Thinking about doing this to my BRZ. Have you noticed a change in the effectiveness of the highbeams/lowbeams? I love the look but would prefer not to compromise my lighting ability.

Thanks for the help! You have beautiful car!

the DRL's will not affect your headlight output. if anything, it will just illuminate the foreground of your light output (the area closest to the bumper) if you have the always on module from diode dynamics. if you don't, the DRL's turn off when you have your lowbeams on.

@Jive Turkey I kept staring at your car today knowing something was different other than the yellow fogs and DRLs. Couldn't figure out what at the time. Now I know lol, very nice!

BRZ has bi-xenon lights. you aren't doing anything at all to mess with light output since you're not touching the projector.

the DRL's actually are quite yellow and very noticeable when its not daylight.

duplicolor metal cast with a UV resistant clear coat on top of that. make sure its UV safe and won't fade. then i just hit it with as many coats as i could afford while the car was down. the longer you let it cure between coats-the harder it will come out.

BE CAREFUL with the yellow paint though, its takes only one or two extra sprays to turn it from the right shade-to a darker more orange ugly shade. ask me how i know LOL
