One way to get more door opening space from inside the car is to put the seat all the way back. As the door opens the opening is wider the farther back you go.

Cleared to drive after a week. Tried to get in the car today, no-go. I can get my butt lowered to the seat, but can't bend enough to get my head in the car. Going to be a whole 30 days before I try it.

This is starting to suck a bit.

Walking is PT. Doc was adamant about no bending for 30 days, and I think I'll follow directions this time! Sitting is seriously uncomfortable still, and I don't need to get anywhere, to it's not a worry yet.

My legs feel better, so that's a win so far.

Space is half the reason for designated spots. Close is the other half. Because most people don't require either, they combine use by building close spaces with extra room.

People in a motorized wheelchair don't always need to be close either... But they sure do need the room.

Don't feel bad using designated spots while you heal.

I'm avoiding surgery. L5/S1 issues. Mostly under control now with daily exercise regimen, I've lost count of how many years. Maybe not as many as it seems though. Pain seems to have been there forever.

Heal well!

Well, that's too bad. Hopefully, in a few more weeks you will limber up enough to be able to get into your car. Have you tried - head first?

Yep, I've avoided surgery for several years. Each year I could do less without extreme pain. This morning I couldn't hardly get out of bed. I can't wait for the back surgery next month.

Just invest in a good lambo door kit from Verticaldoors, it would cut down on the clearance needed to open the door.
