Rain-X also makes an anti fog treatment that goes on the inside of your windshield. Used it for year on the race cars without issue and i actually use it on the inside lens of my safety glasses to keep them from fogging up.

I think the mistake people make applying RainX is that they apply too much and then don't let it haze up enough before removing.

I have found it best to apply like a wax, in the shade, using small circles applied directly to a cloth. Let it haze up for at least 5 minutes, buff it off with a clean cloth. I then reapply using the same method as before, letting it haze up at least 5 minutes before buffing it off.

Now the trick is to spray the windshield down with water, preferably a spritz, not a spray, and then dry it off with a clean cloth. If you skip the water part at the end, you can end up with streaks. You also end up with streaks if you use too much on either of the applications described above.

Living in S. FL, RainX is a MUST for all my cars.

What you describe is pretty much how I apply it as well.

You may be onto something there. Both the cars I used it on were old with original glass. In fact the whole reason I tried it was to see if it helped clear it up a bit.
Maybe I should try it again on a new(ish) windshield and see if I have better luck.

Carpro ceriglass with a glass pad and stoner invisible glass is what I use to prep windshields for coatings. Any polish should be able to deep clean the glass and remove embedded junk. Stiffer pad the better to generate some heat onto the glass.

I second aquapel. Leaps and bounds a better product, and cheap when you consider how long it lasts. MUCH easier to remove with next to no flash time. Typically around $15 CAD for one application.

I've got 10-11 months since I last installed, and that I includes dealing with our crap winters.

I've also tried Gtechniq G1 and wasn't overly impressed. Difficult to buff off/remove and lasted as long as aquapel at double the cost.

My understanding is that the company that created aquapel works with glass manufacturers which is why it bonds and lasts so long.

Rain-x is what.. 40 year old technology?
Nothing wrong with it, but after discovering aquapel it's entirely obsolete. Actually that's lie, I use my 5+ year old bottle to coat windshield wiper blades.

I'm probably the oddball here, but I just use the same Collinite wax I use on the paint on all the windows. No hazing, no glare, and rarely ever have to use my wipers. Really the only time I have to use my wipers is when the car has been sitting in fog.

I use the Maguire's detailing spray on the side and rear windows a coupe of times a month. I just don't do the windshield. It actually works really well and water just flows off.
No doubt we get a pile more rain here though so wipers are used a pile.

LOL Looked up California's rainfall for June and it was a whopping .1 inches. We had 2 inches in about 20 minutes yesterday alone!

Yeah, pretty hot right now. But in winter, it can rain a good amount to cause some flooding. Can use some of that rain up there over down here though.

That's good to know. I only ever saw the cloth and wondered why it was a thing since any cloth would clear fog off the window. I always thought I was too stupid to regulate the defroster properly.

Never had issues with rain x causing hazing. Sounds like something going on with the application process. Gotta buff it off for sure. Tried out car pro ceramic coating and it last longer, few months. But more of a pain that just spraying rain x. Maybe I’ll try aquapel next.

The only thing I use rain-x for these days is applying it to my wiper blades (also rain-x brand). My first set lasted almost 3 years by doing this, and only needed replacement because the rubber inserts started to tear.

I've been using Carpro Flyby Forte coating every 2 years and it's pretty awesome if you do all the prep and application correctly. 80+km/h and light rain you don't even need the use the wipers it just all beads off.

I have to stop using AutoZone as my source for cleaning products. That stuff looks pretty good. My main detractor is bug guts. This car seems to be a magnet.
