GT 86 vs. BMW 125i

From German Car mag "Autobild":
http://www.autobild.de/artikel/bmw-1...h-3539189.html
titled "Toyota beats BMW".

Summary:
Quote:
It may sound surprising, but comparing the two opponents as sports cars, there can be only one winner: the Toyota GT 86. BMW 125i coupe makes for the more civilized package for everyday life and its engine is a monument in its own right. The better sports car comes from Japan, though. The GT 86 is tuned consistently to dynamic with ultra-agile temperament and precise handling, driving pleasure that does not have to cost 50,000 euros and/or require at least 300 hp. It works without turbo, active suspension and high-tech overkill. Lightweight, rear-wheel drive and high-revving naturally aspirated engine: The old concept still rocks.
Autobild is renowned for favoring german car makers in comparison tests, so this comes as a bit of a surprise.

I started to read it in German. But than realized I don't understand German.

My favorite quote was, "I do not drive cars, but my butt had wheels"

Thanks for shattering my dreams for the BMW 1 series, autobild. Danke.

In price and HP.
I was considering a 135i but I didn't like it enough to pay that much.

The 1 series is so close in price (depending on options) to the new 328 that I'd have a hard time choosing between the two. Obviously the 335 would be a better comparison power wise, but I think the new 3 series chassis is brilliant.

Despite cross-shopping them myself, I don't really see them as direct competitors. But, the article says it perfectly: if you're comparing them as sports cars, there's simply no competition. The Toyobaru is, the BMW isn't.

But, if you're comparing them as year-round daily drivers... competition. The 1er is a much nicer place to spend time behind the wheel, in my book, despite being roughly equal in amenities on paper.

My ideal DD has the body of the BRZ, the engine and clutch of the BMW, the shifter of the BRZ, and the interior/general quality of the BMW.
