No, this is far worse. If you don't know of it, it's a colorless, odorless chemical with a number of used including cooling industrial equipment, stripping paint, enhancing agricultural growth, and fire suppression.

Some of the fun bits: Inhaling it has been known to cause suffocation, and prolonged exposure can cause severe tissue damage. It's also extremely corrosive and discarded quantities do millions of dollars in damage to infrastructure every year. Due to not being a controlled substance, some ingest it in small doses to enhance performance. There's no test for it, so anyone could be on it and you wouldn't know.

I have a hydrofluoric acid story from back in the early 80's...I was just a dopey high school kid washing cars at the local VW dealership, and our equally dopey chemical supply delivery guy dropped off a 5 gallon pail of the stuff one day and said "Here, try this.. it works AWESOME on dirty wheels, but be sure to dilute it a bit..." End of safety lecture.

It DID work like gangbusters on otherwise hopelessly grungy aluminum wheels, but man, it was some harsh stuff... No protective gear at all, mixed anywhere from 2:1 and stronger, and applied with a spray bottle...mist everywhere, all over our hands, fumes were chokingly strong, etc. It wasn't until I was in college and my organic chem instructor was talking about how bad it really was, that I realized I'd once again narrowly missed the Darwin hammer...

Talking

I'm confused how anyone is going through brake pads that quickly. Unless they're doing Tail of the Dragon mountain runs daily (or track their car with stock pads - which is just dumb).

Also those rotors look horrendously bad.

Also also, I'm waiting for someone to tell me how they check pad depth for the inner pad on any car without removing the wheels (or lifting the car into the air). It's impossible. And IME it's usually the inner pads that are thinner from use.

If someone has a habit of resting the left foot on the brake pedal.. a bit like riding the clutch in a manual car...

^perhaps. All I know is I sure as hell wouldn't admit that I wear out my pads in less than 30,000 miles.

I’ve worn out pads within a few hundred miles.

Wow!!! That's horrific!

Years ago I scolded an artistic friend when I found out that she had started dabbling in etching glass with the stuff. Yikes!

Mechanix gloves have a purpose, and so do nitrile gloves.
If you don't know the difference, try doing more than debadging cars with floss tools.

Pit crew comment was hilarious!
Get some new wheels, camber boy.

Brake pads?

Jack car.
Remove wheels
Remove caliper.
Remove pads.

All done with thick gloves.
Only step I removed the gloves was to replace the shims.

The other use for cloth gloves is anything that involves grease, oil, lube.
Hassle to keep changing nitrile.
I have 5 pairs of Mechanix and wash each pair after use.

By the way, with new thick pads, I can not see the pads from the outside of the wheel.
So, it was not just a case of low brake pads. Just a crap covered design

I have not done it on my BRZ but have on other cars. If you get a telescoping mirror and flashlight you should be able to look through the window and see both brakes without taking the wheel off. It’s not perfect but I can usually see enough to make a decision on when I need to get new pads. I also rotate my wheels and always check at that time.
