I haven't seen any long term damage from leaving it for a bit but could be wrong. If you've changed sparkplugs on any car before then you can DIY this.
The problem is that it's a boxer engine. it's hard to get in to. I ordered a new set from AutoZone tho. Hopefully, they will last longer. I need to take care of my car. Lol. Thank you!

The dealership is pretty cheap and usually next day, and you don't pay for shipping. I don't think anyone else carries OEM coilpacks, just replicas.

I did the left side standing in my dark driveway with my gf holding a flashlight, it took an hour because I dropped my socket but I fished it out.

No need to jack anything up or do anything crazy. Just remove what's in the way and get wrenching.

Coilpack went out at 58k, so I'll go ahead and do the spark plugs while I'm at it.

With regard to lifting the engine, the video does not mention anything about the steps in prepping the engine for being jacked up besides removing a couple of covers. Can anyone pinpoint the bare minimum that needs to be done to jack up the engine?

Thanks in advance.

CEL P0351 Ignition Coil "A" Primary Control Circuit/Open

I think the consensus here is that there is no need to jack or lift the engine. Just unbolt /remove stuff that's in the way to reach the coils/plugs.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I'll be doing this in like a month 😬

For the driver side closest to the firewall, it might be easier to lift the engine just because it's a tighter fit than all the other tighter fitting coilpacks, but still do-able without lifting.
The most important part to me is patience. I was getting frusterated working in a tight space, made the job harder. Just take your time and be patient. One took me 20 minutes, smaller fingers would've been nice.

I just did it today. While not completely necessary to unbolt the engine, IMO, you're making your life MUCH harder by not doing so. It is VERY easy to do. Unbolt the fuel line bracket, the HPFP heat sheild, and the strut bar, in addition to the two bolts on the bottom and just jack up the motor. It was really easy to do, and this is my first real DIY deal that I've done that involved this much work.

I will post a pic of my old spark plugs. My sister's FRS is approaching 60k miles so I will make a video tutorial when I do them. I was getting the p0351 code and after replacing the coil and all four plugs, the car runs WAY more smoothly. My old plugs did not look like they wore very evenly - stay tuned and I'll post pics tomorrow or something.

Yes please! Thank you! I'm planning to do mine next week!

Am I correct to understand that there was a revision made to parts but no TSB or support from Toyota / Subaru?

I'm curious to know this as well.

I'm also wondering how people are lifting their engines to access plugs and coils easier. I assume you need some special tool or jack to lift the engine up?

FYI I just got the P0353 at about 43K miles. I changed out #1 coil at about 32K-ish? Just to confirm what we already know. The #1 and #3 coils on the right bank are weak points, so dont be too surprised when they need to be replaced.

I've gotten #1 and #2 a few times, will likely swap the coil packs this summer when I do the spark plugs for 60k.
