For what it's worth, my brother owned a 2008 7 series for almost a decade. He drove it to almost 300,000km with 20,000km oil change intervals. The only thing he "fixed" was a single ignition coil.

I've also seen a 5 series with 250,000km recently I don't know it's history but the trunk button didn't work, other than that it drove and worked perfectly.

Petition to get the Supra a manual transmission option. Doubt it'll do any good but hey, signing a petition can't do any harm.

Some of us actually appreciate that the key to a great sports car is less weight, not just adding cheap power.
Yeah and I'm one of those people. I've never owned a sports car that weighs more than 3000 lb. But given the choice between more weight w/manual transmision or less weight with auto I will take the weight. And I'll also take a 3800 lb car with a screaming V8 engine over a Supra with it's engine lifted from a 240i.

I've never owned a domestic car but you can't deny the goodness of the Mustang/Camaro

i have owned an E36, E39, E60, and F10. like i said before, from my experiences with these cars the motor and tranny is fine. but its the electronic that goes to crap over time. with that said it shouldn't to be too bad for the Supra because it will most likely share a lot of components with the M240i.

I'm loving my M240i so far. Its a beast!
Already put a M Peformance exhaust and Dinan stage 1 tune on it and rocking over 400hp!

It may not be as light as a twin but its small size still keeps it feeling like a cockpit and a scalpel on the road.
It is like a little rocketship

Really nothing to it, you just paste in the link, but it can't be the shortened version, needs to be the version that shows in the address bar with youtube.com in the link, not the one you get when you right click and get the "link to this video".

I went to your link above, copied the fully qualified link in the address bar and pasted it below:

.... I guess.

Or people could go to a dealer with check in hand, request a reservation, and say they need to communicate with corporate that you would be happier with the manual. But you will take the auto and be happy to trade it in when the manual is made available.

At least then Toyota can say, hey, our initial target market research was wrong and we need to spend more $$$ on our low volume, high dollar sports car to develop a manual varient.

Why It Took So Long For Toyota and BMWs Partnership to Get Going

Quote:
The partnership was announced nearly six years ago. We're finally starting to see the fruits of the relationship.

Toyota and BMW first announced a collaboration back in 2012. And, then, we heard nothing. No news emerged from this pairing, and the assumption was that perhaps the partnership wouldn't have the results we hoped. But around two years ago, details finally began to emerge about what the two automakers were working on. So why did it take so long?

Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer of the upcoming MkV Supra, explained it to us at a Geneva Motor Show roundtable this week. The short answer? Japanese and German people are very different.

We have quite a lot of differences in the terms of the way we make cars, Tada-san said through an interpreter. The philosophies of the companies, as well as the mentality of Japanese people and German people are quite different. In that sense, we had to overcome a lot of differences.

Tada-san said it took around two years for Toyota and BMW to hash these out, but now, the two understand each other much better. These differences also explain why this sports-car partnership looks so different than Toyotas tie-up with Subaru to create the 86 and BRZ.

When we worked with Subaru, we started out with the aim of having as many common parts as possible between the 86 and BRZ, Tada-sanwho was chief engineer of the 86said. When we initially approached BMW, we thought it would also be aiming to have as much common parts as possible. But they had quite an unexpected reaction initially, saying theres no point in having as many common parts as possible if we cannot make a car that we each want.

So we decided to first have a firm idea of what we, individually, wanted to make, and based on that, we approached each other and compared to see where we could have common parts.

Given that, we can expect the Supra and its BMW platform-mate, the upcoming Z4, to be substantially different from each other. Certainly, these cars will have a lot less in common than the near identical Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ.

That said, the Supra isnt a total departure from the 86, at least not in philosophy. Of course, Tada-san already filled us in how the Supra will be a natural extension of the 86 in terms of dynamics, but theres also the fact that both are the realizations of collaboration. He explained why collaboration, in Toyotas view, is necessary for sports cars.

Sports cars require many parts and elements to realize, however, at the end of the day, when the development phase is over, its not like we can expect volume in the market, he said. Its difficult to establish a business model for this.

So, if youre excited for the upcoming Supra, be thankful that Toyota and BMW worked out their differences.

Yes I did Hans. What's your point? Maybe you should have one before posting, unless name calling was your intent.

I wasn't trying to piss in any of the Wheaties of deluded BMW or Supra fanboys, I'm just a realist. I wanted a straight 6 in the Supra, but don't act naive about what you are getting. If anything, pointing out faults is what would help Toyota prepare or fix problems before they become issues.

Here u go Right Said Fred. Watch this video.

Btw, did you get your air injection fixed yet? Don't be too sexy for your Tundra mkay?

I still think Toyota should have just done this car themselves using the LC as a base. This Z4 wheelbase is just too short making the new Supra look a little weird. I wonder if that crazy high hoodline was a design struggle with Tada san after doing 86/BRZ.
