Pinch weld damage and repair
Hey,
So recently, I ran my car over a curb and bent the pinch weld pretty badly. I've seen people straighten them with pliers or whatever, but I would guess bending it with pliers would only weaken the metal further. What do I need to do to make it a reliable jacking/support point again? Do I need to buy the sheet metal and get someone to weld it in? I've looked around the net, and it seems that pliers are the most popular answer, but no one comments on the reliability of the jacking points afterward. |

Those saying just use pliers are probably correct. As long as you didn't deform the rocker panel the weld should be just fine bending it back. Make sure you cover any flaked or cracked paint though or it could be a nasty rust spot.

In the past this has happened to a car I owned. I just jack the car up from a different position.
My FR-S has side skirts that hide a small dent on the lower edge near the pinch weld. It is what it is. I would avoid throwing money at it, since it does not change the way the car drives.

I was researching the same thing, It's only worth fixing if there's absolutely no other points you can jack up the car like the LSD, etc.

Just bend it back and touch up the paint. All will be fine.
