You could put a dozen other interior shots up next to those and see similarities, because they all follow the same form factors. I really don't think you can look at those photos and draw any conclusions about any kind of relationship. They really don't look unusually similar to me.

But Mazda might be willing to reskin the Miata for Toyota. They already did it for Fiat, so why not sell it again? They're a real whore of a company. They would mate with a John Deere lawn tractor if the price were right.

Going for a smartass comment?

Ducting of a car is hard to rework. Both cars are within inches of each other, so it would be a far deduction of how the S-FR would be made.

The sporty cars made by Toyota (only the 86 atm), and the Supra/or what ever it'll end up being called, are not even strictly made by Toyota; which is also why I'm leaning towards a reskined Miata.

So it looks that the sales of the 2nd generation model didn't go well? I am very sad of what happened, but this might not be the end of everything. Let's see how the new team will handle this. Even if they decide to kill the platform, we don't know yet what Subaru will do. Maybe they decide to go forward with the platform themselves ...

That's because it isn't a second generation, merely a face lift. The sales were already dying off and adding a new bumper and a few minor tweaks is not going to make sales sky rocket. With that said of course by investing in it they hoped the updates would help bring sales up but I think at best they can hope to simply try to maintain the current sales and hopefully prevent them from plummeting even further until either they release the second generation 86 or axe it altogether.

How did we extrapolate the demise of the 86?

No, not cuz of sales, cuz of age.

As for sales goes, from the beginning, they were not planning to make mass production. They were surprised to see high demand from first year and factory couldn't keep it up, but they knew this hype will calm down sooner or later.

& yes, I'm interested to see new team & what's their goal will be for next gen 86

I didn't know that Tada-san was so old. Here you need to be 67 to retire. Anyway, I wish the best to the new team!

In December he was put in charge of Gazoo Racing Development, he could've retired since then though.

He announced his retirement himself. Unlike the rest of the speculation based on total misconceptions, personal bias, twisted logic and just outright ignorance in the industry this is a known fact. Much of what is said in this thread is just laughable.

I like both versions, but tbh, I prefer the small hatch version. Looks like a baby BMW E36/8 M Coupe. Love that shooting brake style.
