This stuff has been around since before you and I were born. Just because the LA Times wrote an article about it doesn't mean it's any more urgent than before.

I would encourage everyone to do some research (outside of opinion on forums) to what rights you have as a motorist, and how to diffuse misconceptions by a police officer that is lumping you with other street racers.

You can do plenty of mods, you also should take control of your rights as a motorist... the first of which is to not antagonize the police in a confrontation.

so does this mean the location of tonights street race is gonna be changed?

I'm dying to see who's gonna finally break into the 16's for the 1/4.

Joking aside, IMO, I feel that its more for the "show" than it is the "money". Illegal mod tickets must be a fraction to other citations(useless street sweeping, speeding, red lights etc) but its done to show that they are "cracking down" on illegal street-racerz.

I'd be very interested to know the numbers actually...

Either way, control yourself on the street, and avoid doing things that "hurt the scene" for the rest of us.

unfortunately, to most people including cops, our cars appear to be all the same on the surface to them. which is why those of us that still drive normally and safe on the street will still get pulled over and harassed for our car mods, because initially the cops can't tell who's who. once we get pulled over, it's almost a matter of luck whether the officer is an asshole or just doing his job. i really dont mind the "getting pulled over" part since i can sorta see where the cops are coming from; but once we are pulled over, if we don't act/look/talk like dumbass kids who cause trouble and our cars are all smog legal, dont powertrip on us and try to "find" a ticket to hand out. thats the bullshit part

Yup, but bike owners get to ride around waking up everyone within a 5 mile radius with their loud pipes save lives crap...double standard...

Great use of enforcement time/resources....hmmmm, car theft ring task force, nope, how about we investigate some cold case murders cuz ya know, the killer(s) are still out there...nope....let's pick on ricers with stickers, fart cans, and wings, lol

***All the more reason to not advertise your mods with stickers and huge wings unless you actually are sponsored or go racing....

was I the only one who actually read the article and couldn't help but laugh every few sentences??

"Durr grinned as he stood beneath the car's popped hood, ogling the turbo-charged engine, shining his flashlight over the modified air intake that allowed the vehicle to breathe in more power-giving air."

Come by school at dismissal. You'll be amazed at how these kids are still on the road.

My neighbors are not happy about my BRZ, Harley, or my GSXR LOL.

I can't blame them though, BRZ cold starts with a Tomei header and 60R are deafening.

This is going to be like when in Washington, they started enforcing the "Slower traffic keep right" law. It s a money making campaign and after a few months of strict enforcement, things fizzle and it goes back to the way it was.

CHP would make a killing, on 101 alone, if they enforced that rule.
