Doesn't the airbag deploy from behind that panel? That could be quite the launcher.

It's really only an issue for magnetic storage. I suppose a strong enough magnet left attached for a long enough time might cause some oddities by magnetizing internal components, but it's not really an issue these days.

If I had a passenger in a collision that could be a problem.
Fortunately the passenger air bag turns off without a passenger, and I rarely have passengers in the car.

Are we sure that's where the air bag deploys from?

The pillars have plastic straps to hold the covers on when the air bag deploys. The dash panels do not.

No. It comes off the top and wraps over the dash. If the video doesn't automatically queue to this time, go to 3:51:

The Square Jellyfish vent mount is the best one I've used. It fits perfectly in the upper right vent and is very stable. It doesn't block much of the vent or the radio buttons. The clamp it came with is a little strong so it takes two hands to insert and remove a cell phone. I ended up replacing it with one from Apps2car.

I tried a magnetic one, and it is total garbage.

Are you saying you use the Jellyfish, kept the attachment base,
but replaced the spring-loaded clamp b/c it's too tight for easy mounting & removal?

Apps2car link?

What do you need your phone at the ready for while driving?

You might find that a stereo with carplay/android auto will do what you need, without having to mess with your phone while driving.

I was wondering if you could use a GoPro mount, combined with a magnet-style puck mount, to stick the phone above the rear-view mirror.

Android head unit $1000
Phone mount $20 for the functionality I use.

Otherwise I agree, If I had a grand to dump on a head unit I would.

I bought a TEIN phone mount. It mounts onto the A/C vent guides, using a magnet that you attach on your phone. Broke in about 2 weeks. Would not recommend their phone mounts at all . But I'd go with their coilovers every time!

Ooohhh. I like this thing. I’d there anywhere you can buy this dash piece for mounting? Thanks.

This is an old message, but it looks like nobody ever responded, so I will.

I can't speak for OP, but I drive all over the state. Well, actually, multiple states. I use my phone constantly in the car for navigation, weather radar, music stored on the phone, access to Sirius XM through the cell network when trees and T-Mobile towers interfere with the satellite signal, access to I Heart Radio, infrequently accepting or making phone calls through the car's hands free (almost always while pulled over somewhere), access to Alexa and occasionally reading codes or monitoring the engine using Torque.

Why should I buy a new head unit when I already have a device (my phone) that fills all those functions and is already mounted right next to the radio display? I would still need the phone anyway, both for use outside of the car and to provide connectivity for an Android head unit. And an Android head unit would not reduce the amount of "having to mess with" a screen while driving, since I would theoretically be buying it to do all the same things.

So spend money on a completely redundant device that gains me nothing whatsoever? Why?
