New England Autocross

Hey all,

I've added a short photo essay to the Autocross subforum about my experiences back in September with the Cumberland Motor Club in Maine:

Autocross and the BRZ: A Novice Run (photos)

Have a look if you're interested, and let's start a discussion about an 86 invasion for some autocross event this season! I'd loooove to see a fleet of BRZs and FR-Ses pull into a Devens Airfield meet this summer. I think that would be an ideal course for someone on the fence about autocross: it usually has plenty of straights that act more like a raceway than a typical course.

If you are willing to drive to Maine, why not try SCCNH at NHMS? Way more seat time then you will ever see at a NER/SCCA event at Devens.

just quickly scrolled through and checked out the pics. looks awesome dude. one of the main reasons I bought my frs is cuz I wanted to autocross it sometime when it gets warmer out. i am an absolute beginner and have never done it before so I'm hoping I can find an autocross school to join for a few quick lessons in the spring.

I'm down for any group autocross events/meets. Reason I traded in my 07 SI was for a well balanced RWD track car...FR-S

I would like to make it in the BRZ to some kind of event at NHMS, whether it's an HPDE or an autocross event. What is it about the events there gives you more seat time?

I just looked at the SCCNH calendar and it looks like there are some AutoX schools coming up this spring.
Everyone was really nice to me as a novice. Even people in the same class gave me tips.

The parking lot used at NHMS is small....

Devens is the top destination in New England for Autocrossing.

BMW will run a school in April there where you can get 40-50 runs in if you like. We also run the EVOlution Schools Mothers Day weekend every year.

BMW Autocrosses are 8 runs per day, some of the smaller club like SVT and others net you many more than that...
I posted most of the HPDE school schedules in another post and would lov to see many of you at events this year.

ADSI uses an Airport in RI. Its about $125 a session but you get like 60 runs.

The NER/SCCA events are incredibly popular and extremely well attended. It is not uncommon to see over 120 entrants at a single NER event. You'll get 3 runs at least, but any more will depend on the rest of the day. It's a long day for 3 minutes behind the wheel.

At NHMS, the SCCNH guys typically get 12-15 runs per day, as they tend to run about 40-50 drivers. Even though the lot is small, the amount of seat time is worth it.

Also, we run full Drift Events at NHMS, if you want to try that too. LMK.

As I've recommended before, Steve is the man when it comes to the AutoX Schools around. I cannot stress enough the benefits of attending a single EVO school. After that, if Devens is your choice, it's best to try to run with clubs other than NER/SCCA. They are typically less attended netting you more much more seat time.

There is nothing wrong with a good sized parking lot, but I don't do parking lots...My opinion...Unless its 800'x800' or larger.

Any seat time you can get is worth it. The runways allow for faster safer speeds with more open course elements.

As for schools I have taught or still teach for them all.

Boston BMW hosts the EVO schools each year. They will again be on Mothers Day weekend. You want to become a serious SOLO 2 driver?? you will go to a EVO school somewhere in your learning curve.

NERSCCA hosts pair of schools each yeaand so does BMW. Both of these clubs schools are under $100 per car and you will get silly seat time in both of them! BMW's attrack tons of Novices each year.

Yes I still own my 400WHP EVO X MR.I was putting to many miles on it and I got the FR-S for a dailydriver.

I'm already scrwing around with it as a STX ride..
