I did my own install and it cost me over 8,000$ Ecutek and dyno tune alone was almost 2,000. Then gauges, radiator, oil cooler, zip ties, hose clamps, oil, clutch, fuel pump, injectors......transmission.

The car is fun and quick at 300whp and very well matched. I think guys are doing high 12 second quarters if that gives you an idea. With e85 you can turn it up into the 400+whp range and it becomes a low low 11 second car and will be in the same straight line highway pull feeling as a gtr, corvette etc. At 450whp I'm not nervous around any stock non exotic car so far and spin 3rd all day, 4th when the tires are cold. At 500whp it becomes difficult to drive and does 7 second 60-130s and you buy transmissions and tires monthly.
How I looked at it when I decided how much power I wanted was I took the HP to weight ratio of other fast cars I had driven and came up with how much power and weight reduction my frs needed to feel like that.

This is the delimma I am in too. A fully built and boosted fa20 with all the fixin's is into about $15k. That's in the ballpark of how much an LS2 swap should cost.

It really depends on how much power you want.
If you wanted a little bump on power I'm sure for example an innovate supercharger kit and simple tune wouldn't cost anywhere near 10k. I think it is pretty clear now that you want much more than that. There is of course no end to the amount of money one can spend on cars. I'm glad I brought life to this thread. If you do decide to do an LS swap I hope you post something about it. |

There will be lots of people who say not to do engine swap but if you're happy with the price and trust the shop will do a good job then I see no reason not to go that route. I'm assuming the shop will get all the electronics like the stock tach working properly?

I've riden in a few within the 250-270 whp range and honestly with how light these cars are I don't think I'd ever need or want more to be honest. It's easy for things to get crazy past that power to weight ratio.

I have no problems driving my car on the street, these motors are worth modifying. If done right you will always smiling. At 300whp the average skilled driver will still have confidence to drive it but at 450 upwards it takes abit of skill to control.

I wonder how you get the power to the pavement when going 300+ HP. Mandatory Rocket Bunny with 10" W wheels? Traction control light continuously flashing? This isn't a 911 Turbo, it really wasn't made for that power in its current form IMHO.

Yeah but the 911 has a lot of weight directly over the rear wheels to assist traction. It just seems to me there are less costly and more engineered options for small high power RWD cars. Mind you none of them will necessarily have the originality. A used 911 turbo would be less risky.
