So, this is you? What do you plan to do with the FR-S?

Not sure why but when I switched from my 96 civic hatch to a 99 civic si insurace ended up costing me $140 more than my hatch. Motors are the same size and power numbers aren't huge either

another aspect is that they look at the collision rates for cars. there may be a fair amount of kids that get civic si's cause its considered a sports car and wreck them, causing the insurance companies to be more cautious about insuring civic si's, making the premium for that model go up.

and the theft of the 99/00 Si is pretty much unavoidable

There's exceptions to every rule, but in general sports cars are going to have higher insurance rates than your average grocery-getter, regardless of performance trim level. And that's what the R32 is... a quicker Golf. There's a lot of factors that go into determining an insurance rate for a particular car. Cost to repair, safety options, reputation of the demographic that buys a particular car- just to name a few.

Though, if I remember, you're what? 16? When you see what the insurance rates are going to be for your age group on the 86/frs when it comes out you may decide that the beat up Camry down the street will do just fine to get you back and forth between college and home.
Well, to be honest, ill have the car around the time i graduate, 17-18, and also itll be "my dad's" car and i will just be in the insurance as a "possible driver from time to time" so it shouldnt be THAT bad. Right?

My parents just tried to insure my younger brother (19) on their 97 Tahoe as an occasional driver and they wanted $1900/6mo. for him. That's more in one month than I pay on my 6mo. bill for full coverage on my Miata. If you have to pay for your own insurance, I'd definitely stick with a beater until you're older.

I just turned 25 and before I was paying about 107$ to insure my Si, I sure hope with my next car if it's an FR-S would cost much lower. Though because Grad school cost is so high I might get a beater and wait for FR-S MMC I wonder how much it would cost to insure something like a Miata. Some sorta proven tuner platform that doesn't break the bank.

Thats why I am glad Im turning 27 next month with no accidents or tickets since I got my licensce at 19. This car will probably be as much as my RSX which is $35 for liability and $70 for full coverage.

Read'em and weep (or laugh I guess): $2500/year including the 15% discount, 5 driving years (early 20's), no accidents, sole vehicle driver. Insurance is mandatory to operate a vehicle.

And for more of a laugh: my $1000 beater was $2000/year to insure (no discount then).

Where do you live? I never paid anywhere near that much when I was your age.

Ya, and they are under the assumption that it's a regular 1ZZ Corolla... The Provincial insurance is very whack here. I heard a story that it was cheaper to insure an EVO X then a Cobalt Coupe because it's a 4-door. I never checked into that story but it really wouldn't surprise me. The Celica is $250-$300 more a year then a Corolla the last time I checked.

I live in British Columbia, Canada like a couple other members on here. You would be safe to assume that gasoline prices are on par with how insane the insurance is (though not as bad as Europe)...
