Twin vs VW 2015 GTI
Reading about the new 7th generation GTI, I am seriously considering trading the FRS for one. After 2 years of ownership, I have been to the track twice with the car, I really don't live near great roads, and my love for the car is starting to wean. I will admit maybe I was swept up in the hype. I still love my FR-S, but my needs and wants in life for a car are changing. Also with the wife hinting at kids in the near future, a 4 door will be a must. The GTI represents what I want in a car. Can handle 4 people, has decent power for city driving, can still have fun on curvy roads, but has a level of luxury, build quality and materials the FRS can't match. The Twins are great cars and we all know the money went into the chassis. The GTI is overall just a solid car. Anyone test drive one yet?

When you have kids you'll want a minivan for her, so don't think the GTI is going to suffice.
I don't think of the GTI as a luxury car, but I've never driven or looked at one. |

I've got 2 kids age 4 and 6 and I would not consider the Gti much better than the twins. My wife has a Mazda3 and even that is a bit on the small side. I would look at something bigger like an Outback/Forester or small SUV.

Our two cars when our kids were small were an Echo and a Matrix. You can get by with a smaller car.
I moved to the FRS when the oldest left for University. |

Op, the GTI is a very practical car for a small family. It is a hatchback, a stroller will fit with no problem. Three kids? Yeah get the minivan.. My only advice would be to wait a year for VW to work out the kinks and for the hype to die down. The GTI is being produced in Mexico for the first time for the North American market and VW's reliability is not on par with the Japanese. |

I drove one. It was a real disappointment. Overly light controls, weird, overly quick steering and a minivan like view out. And the ride was so pillowy I couldn't feel the road. I was happy to get out. Don't know why the mags are raving about it.

250 lb-ft of torque at like 2000 rpm's + FWD = My old '07 GTI would have some prominent torque steer with 207 lb-ft of torque. It's probably terrible in the 2015's...
