Tune + Headers +e85 Worth it? or wait for FI?

Hey guys!

I was wondering what everyone's opinions were on going for an OFT + a set of headers on e85.

How does the butt dyno feel? Is it a big enough difference to give the car some grunt and keep me satisfied? The car feels sluggish to me, and I would definitely love to have some torque down low.

My other option would be to save for quite a while and go for a turbocharger or supercharger, but it would be a looong time from now.

Let me know what you guys suggest! Also if you guys have recommendations for specific headers that are geared more towards torque gains, the nameless long tube seemed to be a good choice to me.

Best value for usa guys is likely Gruppe S uel header and overpipe combo for under $500 and an E85 tune from oft or ecutek tuner if you have one local

Be arround 1000 all up if you fit header yourself worth about 30 wheel hp

add a drop in filter for $50

see Basic Bolts on Mods guide link below

fi is better but will cost you 5 times that with oil cooler and clutch

Thank you man! The Gruppe-s header looks amazing for the price and you really can't beat the sound of a uel header. My only question left is if 30hp really makes a big enough difference in the butt dyno to justify the costs and inconvienence of finding e85 near me!

I ran my car for 2 years like that before now going FI. I was worth it to me, changed the complete experience of the driving the car. Throttle response was much improved, and the torque dip was almost completely gone.

Peak HP and Torque gains don't tell the whole story. In some parts of the RPM range you will see even greater differences. This car when making 200 whp and corresponding torque drives much differently than stock. At one of the tracks I frequent, speed at the end of the straight went from 118 to 129 mph.

I vote you get the OFT + headers and enjoy that for a bit! Also depends on which FI kit you're gonna go with, too. As that will give you time to research it a bit before jumping into it all.

Yes it will. It will improve the car in all of the rpm range even without e85.

I'm just running;

stage 1 oft
Catback
Drop in filter
Inlet tube

And there is a difference compared to the stock car that makes the car much more enjoyable in all of the rpm range.

With a stage 2 oft with a header and e85... it will be a fun ride and you will notice a big difference... however just remember it makes the car louder and smelly.

Think about what kind of FI you want as well, a header and E85 tune is a great stepping stone for a SC kit in the potential future as they dont require a header with the kit.

As other guy said if you go supercharger you can keep header, but with most turbe kits you will need a special exhaust manifold to suit turbo.

Those grupp s headers will sell well on the forums here

OFT device also sells well secondhand as it can be unmarried from your car and transfered to aonther brz\86.

OFT support SBD turbo kit and vortech sC kit and i thhink they have done edlebrock but check with oft guys.

Ecutek their is more support for fi kits, but more expensive system especially if you dont have local tuner to flash tune for you as you will need cable kit as well as licience and tune.

OFT comes with tunes and flash device no licience required.

Pick what suits your needs and budget.

Alright! Thanks man! I think I'll go for the OFT and some headers, in the end if I decide to go for a turbo instead of a supercharger I'm only out a few hundred which is worth the enjoyment from the extra power!

Nothing cheap about going FI correctly. Friend has a e85 with headers tune and i got a turbo. Depends what your budget is. 300+ bhp done right is going to cost 10k. Headers and e85 tune is hella cheap.

I franky dont think its worth if for going FI for 250bhp like somany do. Drive a friends 300+bhp brz/frs and forever hate your NA.

Figure out your budget or savings and go from there.

I was talking to a local tuner about freshening up my car and they quoted $1200 just for a petrol tune. This was with Ecutek and I believe it included a cable etc. They didn't seem to think much of OFT tunes. With header and cat back we were looking at $3200-3400. I brought up E85 and they said it would cost about the same since I would need new injectors and a fuel pump. I decided to regroup since I don't want to spend that much on my daily driver.

I've actually started to toy with the idea of getting an older Boxster as a fun top down weekend car. The only thing holding me back is that I live in a highrise condo and don't have the room or equipment to wrench on either car myself.
