Another intake thread (sorry) What's the best deal with OUT problems

I'm reading that the injen intake causes the MAF to not read correctly, even though its best bang for the buck, not worth the headache to me...

So whats the best deal on an intake? Drop in filter? Silicone hose kit from eBay? Takeda? I just want a little extra power without headaches.

I know I'm not gonna get an extra 1200rwhp out of an intake, but any little bit will help with this car. What are your thoughts?

After researching I think the AEM is my choice. I want the Perrin but I'm not removing the front bumper.

Intake of choice + tune to correct readings = best way to go.

Same here. I was like "better research before I make an ass out of myself"

Edit: also DAMN cars are picky about mods these days.

Trd for me. Love it.

Seriously though, I actually already have it and really do like it. The sound change is excellent and the engine bay looks a lot less cluttered. Also, the installation is ridiculously easy. They clearly developed the car with this intake under the hood, then pulled it out and made the other one fit.

Because the AEM chip is nothing but a MAF translator to "correct" the MAF reading, it doesn't actually look at AFR's, etc and could make you run too lean or rich.

IMO, ditch the chip and get a proper tune.

THose who say its a maf translator do not know what they are talking about. It does not confuse or adjust the maf reading. Please dont assume things just by reading chip. It acts as a interface that cleans up the maf reading allowing for a more precise reading. They explain it by taking static out of the reading. All i know is wheni tried my aem without it ran like a crappy injen or air raid without a tune. With it it sounds better runs smother and although not huge gains as older cars use to show with intake, you can feel it and net good results. With a good tune it shows better gains.

It absolutely adjusts the MAF reading, it's not "cleaning up" the reading, it's adjusting it because they change the MAF placement. There's no static in the reading, that implies the stock MAF is faulty.

The reason your car runs better with the chip is because it's modifying the MAF reading to compensate for the changed MAF placement (and changed tube diameter where the MAF sits).

At the end of the day it's just guessing though, where as a proper tune takes a lot of other factors into account to get the engine running optimally.

If you were to dyno the car with the chip (log AFR's!) then remove the chip and have it properly tuned, dyno it again (log AFR's again!) and compare the two charts you'll find the AFR's are better across the board with a proper tune and no chip than with the stock tune and the chip and you'll have more power.
