Short opening was the original design. They switched to the long opening later.

The stock snorkel has a more restrictive air path.

@86 FRS @NoFear99 My afe Takeda is the long version one. It does require remove the air scoop.
From googling, seems like the long openning is the latest version that aFe/Greddy updated..check out their website page..their both page have the long openning version on there. The short openning had been discountinued as far as it show.

And that explains it... lol Remove the snorkel if you have the longer wider opening and then you will still get great airflow.

Mine just slipped right over the foam covered coupler. Not sure why others are having problems.

edit: Ah, i see that some are short and others are long. Mine was short.

i have the long one and it slipped over the snorkel very easily. The afe with snorkel sounded the same as stock intake. After a week, I removed the snorkel. Now it sounds mean.

AFTER removing the bumper, I realized I could have just left the snorkel in there...Oh well. Also, I noticed that there is an almost mechanical suction sound that I can't seem to pin down...I'm thinking it's the hole I drilled into the sound tube making it. Hmmm...

The snorkel is more restrictive than leaving it out, so in theory, you're better off without it. In practice, I'm not sure how much difference, if any, it actually makes.

The suction sound is just inherent to the intake.

It's not the regular suction noise...There seems to be an additional raspy suction noise apart from the big gulp...Still trying to figure it out or if there's anything loose in the engine bay...

Hmm, at what engine speed does it occur?

Going to figure that out later and get back to you...Seems to be happening on upshifts at higher revs since the regular suction noise is all I hear below 4500 rpm.
