However of course with stock body and suspension what's the widest tires can these fit?

A.) For size 255: seems to be the neutral not too narrow - too wide. What height? 255/35...255/40? What brand of tires, recommendations, experiences, pics?

B.) Would 265 width fit? what height treadwall...265/35? Would it fit stock? don't mind if have to roll fenders, doesn't seem like its that hard?
This setup will not fit on stock suspension or lowering springs. It will require coilovers.

You can run the 18x9.5 all around but with a 235 or smaller tire stretched. Otherwise if you run any bigger of a tire it will hit/rub against your suspension in the front.

An option is to get 5-10mm spacers and then you can run the optimal 255 tire. But at that point the wheels will be sticking out from the fenders and not look good at all.

Long story short. Anyone wanting to run an 18x9.5 square setup on an FRS/BRZ it is best to have coilovers.

Perfect fit tires for 18x8.5"

finally had a chance to put 255/35 on my 18x8.5 42 57xtremes and this combination makes the protruding lip totally disappear!

unfortunately i strongly suspect a 255/35 tire will make make the front poke out a lot. will know over the weekend and post pics.

Update: So I had my front tires replaced with a pair of Michelin Pilot Super Sports and the fitment was all off. The lip poked out a bit (not as much as with the 235/40 kumhos) and the sidewall had a little bulge to it. My first thought was the pair of 57xtreme front wheels were slightly different from the rears (since I bought them about a year apart from each other), but on closer inspection turns out it was the tires themselves that were different. Tire Rack sells (at least) two different Michellin Pilot Super Sport tires. Everything is the same, reviews, name, price, rating, but one is "TPC Spec" and one is not. The TPC Spec version is the better looking fitment (the one I posted pictures of). I called up Tire Rack and they spoke to Michelin and replaced the non-TPC Spec tires.

I am on Tein coilovers with about a 3/4" drop and no camber in front and there is absolutely no rubbing.

Yes, there's a bit of poke on the front but not that big a deal.

Use 35 series, it's diameter is 25". (1.7% diff from stock)
24.6 stock diameter. 255/40 has a 26" diameter, which is 6% larger. Generally you don't want more than a 3% +/- difference.

To run an 18x9.5 square setup on FRS/BRZ with a coilover and 255/35/18 tyre, do you need adjustable LCA too?

Yes, it is recommended to get rear LCAs to get your camber back to or close to within OE spec. Since when you lower your car the geometry will be much different and these cars do not have any adjustment from the factory.
