With that being said(years ago lol), I guess the PP package Brembos were designed to work with the rear PP Brembos? I was thinking of getting just the front PP Brembos and run stock rears with same Winmax W6 pads on both.

I guess Im better off with either the AP Sprint kit or CSG Brembo

Wonder if anyone can help.

I recently had XP8 pads(paid the extra for pre-bedding) installed. They work so much better than stock, but there is a high pitched squeal when doing light braking. Ive read that this could be caused by my rotors. They are still the stock rotors(6+ years old) and i have never had them resurfaced. If that is the cause... could anyone recommend new rotors? Slotted? which brand?

Thanks in advance.

I have the comparable Winmax W3 pads. The XP8 might be harder, Im not certain. But with a pad like these thats just what they do. Squeel. Learn to live with it.

Since this is the brakes guide, I'll ask a question only someone crazy like me would think of.

What is the smallest, lightest brakes we can use on our cars? I want to run 16" wheels at most, but it would be awesome if I could find lightweight brakes that would let me run 15".

There are few 15" wheels that can work with our stock brakes.
As for lightest .. i guess willwood wrx 4pots might be. Also there was one brake kit intended for drag use, but it didn't look streetable, overlightened till greatily compromising main function, so i don't consider it as lightest.

Thanks! I had read they were louder, just didnt think it would be like that. I only drive the car 3-4 times a month so not a big issue, just wondered if there was a way to fix it.

My experience with XP10's are that they are fairly quiet when you have a good transfer layer on the rotors. However -- getting a good transfer layer is difficult -- you have to get them HOT - it's hard to do (XP8 should be slightly easier, but I'd think still difficult). Street driving doesn't generate enough heat and the transfer layer goes away -- the squeal returns.

My car is mostly track use, and I gave up on trying to keep the XP10s bedded and quiet away from the track.

Light brake pressure seems to be the worst - you can brake later/harder for normal stops and minimize the squealing at the risk of others thinking you are driving like an ass.

That's just what race pads do. That's normal; however, you want to use new blank rotors to have those pads, despite being pre-bedded.

For rotors, just stick with Centric high carbon content blanks. Want to know why? I can make a thread on the science behind it, but basically google F1 brakes or any other high form of motorsport, you'll see they use vented, high carbon content blanks.

Some 15 inch wheels will fit over stock brakes, however they're not always the lightest as they're generally intended for rally applications. The usual issue with clearing 15 inch wheels is actually the tie rod.

Enkei 16x7 wheels are like 13 lbs and relatively inexpensive. They clear OEM brakes.

The Subaru FHI 4 pots (as seen on 2006-2007 WRX) are slightly lighter and clear some 15 inch wheels. I believe the rear 2 pots are lighter, but I'm not sure what the net change is since you have to use an adapter bracket. The rear 2 pots have no effect on bias, the front 4 pots shift bias slightly to the rear. They use the same rotors as OEM.

EDIT: I'm wrong on the bias change, the rear FHI 2 pots shift bias forward. Front FHI 4 pots have no effect on bias.

Has anyone replaced the rear PP Brembo with a Centric or similar blank? I can't find any that say they fit, I can only find blank rotors for the front.

Racecomp Engineering: btw, you don't happen to know if there might be some R16 wheels that may fit even over PP brembos or that's something impossible even in some rally wheel form with spoke design for extra brakes clearance (i don't know eg. rotor diameter of PP brembos)?

BRAID has a 16 inch wheel that fits over STI Brembos on an Impreza. Don't know if it's been tried on a BRZ, and I probably wouldn't try it.

On an unrelated note, are rear brake upgrade necessary for track use? I'm planning on going to an AP Racing Sprint BBK with Ferodo DS1.11 pads and I want to know if I need to touch the rear brakes apart from giving them the same pads as the front. Also, if I'm running the DS1.11s as dedicated track pads, what should I use for daily driving? I was thinking about using DS2500s as dedicated street pads, but they're marketed as hybrids so I was worried about issues with noise, dusting, and lack of cold bite. Is it even advisable to run different pads for track and street? I don't want to bed the pads every time I switch.
