Every kind of auto is faster-shifting than a manual for everyday driving unless someone is driving around like a douche, shifting like they are at the track, and the time difference is irrelevant for the average person. It really only matters for people who want to beat other people on track where the tenths of a second add up. Autos are mostly for convienence and to be faster without as much effort for everyday driving.

So manual mode on an auto trans is for track only?

It can be used however anyone wants to use it.
I’m saying that if someone says I am buying the dual clutch auto Supra, Porsche, etc because it is faster than the manual then it is a silly statement unless that person is a track rat who is a pro driver or something who is trying to beat others by shifting a few tens of a second faster. The real world difference doesn’t exist. The degree of driver skill difference will nullify the equipment difference between an auto or manual, except at the highest level. Buy the auto for convienence, preference, needs or whatever, but dont buy the auto for bragging rights that it is faster (that’s laughable), nor should anyone be surprised if they get passed on track by the manual... even though the auto is “faster”.

This. If you don't want to deal with a manual, get the auto. There's no other reason to get one. You will never get in a situation where you need that 100ms shift. |

For comparison, when looking at a datalog with a 90hz sample rate I am shifting around 250ms. So let’s say the auto shifts at 100ms. Is that really enough time saved to give up the fun factor? Not for me it isn’t. |

Same place where they officially unveiled the FR-S and BRZ in 2012. I went to that one but now I am 1000 miles away so I will not see the Supra there. It is a great venue though.
