OMG. That's awful. REALLY glad it wasn't immediately worse. Wow. Best wishes for him.

You might have something there. My mood was a bit like "it's Saturday night, WHY are the granddaughters here?" Feed them some fast food, change a poopie diaper, give the 2 year old a bath, and hang on till their parents get back from the wedding they were attending.

Oh no.

Hoping it isn't worse as well.

Oh, I wish your future father in law a speedy recovery.

So good news. Future father in law is coherant and can still walk, though I understand he is quite sore. I guess his spinal cord/brain is relatively intact and just has some broken vertebrae and a concussion maybe? I'm hearing this all second-hand (or third-hand) so idk really. Her mom exaggerates and her dad downplays everything so .

Thanks for the well-wishings everyone.

Any bets on whether he tries to get me to finish the roofing when we get up there this week?

Two things...

That sucks, but glad it sounds like everything is on the better end of what could-have-been. Hope he heals well! And has the patience to let the healing happen, vs insisting it's good too soon...

Second... this is where you learn from his example and pay someone to finish the job, lest you fall off the roof right before your wedding.

Oh, third! Remember to breathe, and remember to eat. And don't fret the small stuff once things start moving. Enjoy your day when it gets here.

My understanding/definition of 'grandparents', is that they look after their grandchildren, only dealing with the good bits... Handover the yucky bits to the parents! Why are you going through the yucky bits the second time round? I think you need to ditch your assortment of shoes, replace with a smarter set, full/half brouges, Oxfords etc and handback the diaper changing and bathing to the rightful owners..

Well, that's good news!

Back in the day, just a couple of weeks before our daughters wedding, I went and had a stroke. Yep, my right side was pretty much messed up.

However, our daughter got hitched anyway.

Since she paid for her own wedding, I didn't even have to write a check, although I couldn't have anyway - cause my right hand wasn't working.

Now as far as that roof, I strongly suggest someone call a roofer to finish the job.

I wish your future father-in-law a quick and complete recovery.

When you see him tell him ol humfrz suggests that when he is climbing that ladder, he should listen to that little voice on his shoulder that says "you have no business being up here".

Haha... Can you offer before he has a chance to ask? Bonus points for sure.

Well, you have some good points there.

However, it's not up to me. Grandma is the one that retired early so she could daycare for her granddaughters. What could I say -

So, she has taken on this commitment and I just help out. If I don't help out, she gets overloaded and tries to do it all. Then she gets all cranky and starts snapping at me - and I'm not the one with the poopie diaper!

But hey, in all seriousness, what else better do I have to do, than be a part of those little girls growing up?

Yep. Especially considering this isn't even the first time from what I've heard. Yes, he has a mild case of insanity.
