Production Spec Subaru BRZ Previewed at National Conference & Latest Info/Rumors

Update: Quote from someone who was at the 2011 Subaru National Business Conference where Subaru BRZ coupe was previewed:

Quote:
I also got a quick look at a production-spec RWD sport coupe. I can't say much other than it look very good in a mini-Maserati kind of way. Forget the plexiglass show car, those are not the lines at all. Its much sexier. I'm in love and really want one to compliment my WRX.

There was a strict no-photo policy at the coupe unveil
Update: Post from tranzformer:

Quote:
Tonight my wife and I pre-ordered a new '12 Impreza Sport. As we were about to leave I was speaking with the sales manager as I knew he had been to the recent Subaru new vehicle test drive for dealers in Chicago. We talked a bit about the new '12 Impreza and then at the end I asked him if he had seen the new coupe. He said he had and I was able to get the following out of him. Take it for what it is.

- His words "the coupe looks really really nice" even though he is a die hard Subaru fan and isn't sure why they didn't include AWD (we all know why here) he said he is so tempted to buy one even though it is not AWD.

- "Subaru hasn't decided if it will come in just manual or also auto." Mentioned something along the lines that there was talk this could just come in manual.

- "Price is expected to be around $20k."

- Was told to "only expect 1-2 coupe's in the first 6-12 months of its release"

- Said that he hadn't heard "if they had decided on a name" (remember Chicago event happened before BZR name was released, so he probably hasn't kept up with all the news/rumors like us)

Original post:

So my bro went shopping for a Subaru Forester(nice car I might add) and I took advantage of the time to ask about the BRZ. Here's the convo:

Me: Heard of the BRZ?
Dealer: Yea, I saw it at Chicago, they had a full bodied model.

Me: How'd it look?
Dealer: It looked nice, almost like a Z car.

Me: Any engine specs?
Dealer: Not yet, but probably around 200hp from a 2 liter

Me: Turbo?
Dealer: They're keeping it NA.

Me: Base price?
Dealer: They're trying to keep it around $25,000

Me: Weight figures?
Dealer: Under 3000 lbs

*ninja edit*
Me: When is it going to hit dealers?
Dealer: Its expected to be around spring, so March, April? Not sure.

Take from it what you will. Just wanted to keep you guys informed <3

full bodied model? Hmmm... isnt subaru going to show the next "RWD sports car architecture" concept in frankfurt? and weren't there reports a long time ago about frankfurt being the car show to show off the production model? maybe the subaru/toyota lines got crossed somewhere and we'll see a near production Subaru concept in a few weeks!

This worries me he said "around" and not anywhere near $20-21k.
Oh well, maybe he just wanted to be a good salesman/person and just guesstimated, or isn't fully up-to-date with the current news.

Someone on NASIOC was at that event and he also said that they showed the coupe. He couldn't say anything else but it makes me think that this dealer might be legit.

25k is too much for me. The SOA CEO said before that the price will be between the Impreza and Legacy. 25k would be more than both of them. Hopefully that was just a guess on the salesman's part. "Under 3000lbs" doesn't do much for me either.

What did you expect? Its a subaru, if you want cheap go buy the scion. I personally am glad it's not higher.

Also, I wouldn't mind 2900 lbs. Considering the quality of the interior, it might be a good compromise.

Of course. But this isnt a commuter car with an eco engine with an open diff. Stuff like that reflects on the price.

200hp, 2900lbs, 25k? Nobody will buy it. Right next to it in the Subaru dealership will be a WRX that has 265hp, 3100lbs, for the same price. Or they could get a GTI, MS3, GC, V6 mustang, Miata, the list goes on and on and on. And that's not even getting into the used cars you can get for 25k. It better shit rainbows and cook me breakfast if it costs 25k.

200hp, 2700lbs, 19k makes a whole lot more sense.

+1. $25k at 200hp, 2900lbs will be of no interest to me. I sure hope it comes in at least at 2700lbs, if not lighter. But we have had enough threads about that.

My ideal would be to have it come in at $19-20k as a base model. If they are adamant about pricing this at $25k, I hope that will include some nice HID, interior, seats and wheels. Otherwise I will say pass and move on.

Even w those features, it's still expensive. It better come w Recaro CF seats & Volks or hella light wheels to put that extra $4~6k

Ichi have you heard anything about this meeting in chicago?

Also, Im sure it wont come in at 2900 lbs. I was just throwing that number out there. It wouldn't make sense if a 5 door hatch weights 200 lbs more than a "lightweight" 3 door hatch . . . Im expecting the weight to be at 2900 lbs wet(driver, gas, fluids). That means approx. ~2650 lbs for me.

Probably had to sign non-disclosure agreements and weren't allowed to bring cameras or cell phones into the tent/buildling.
