Oh wait, that was on the magical e85 with just a tune.

No e85 here. No etOH free either. On the radio there were discussing a new law which would allow additional 5% EtOH, pissed a lot of people off. They were claiming the alcohol attacks seals and shortens the life of seals.

All I know is I wish we had ethanol free gas because it gets better fuel milage. .

Ugh the energy content of EtOH is disappointing. If I want EtOH, I'll buy it at the booze store.

This issue makes me hesitant to go pick up the OFT, or for that matter any tune. Has anyone proven this to be an issue long term for the car?

I know I asked this twice but is the sound for the normal OFT tune the same as that for the supercharged?

It seems that @Dezoris heard it from the supercharged video and you also have a supercharged/tuned car if I'm correct?

Does not matter if the car is supercharged or NA, if the tuner uses aggressive VVT maps to eliminate torque dip certain cars will exhibit this valve-train noise.

Tuners like Perrin and Vishnu and others who have extensive knowledge claim it's likely resonance from the VVT angle change.

But there is no proof mechanically one way or another if its good or bad.
For me, everyone who hears the car says it sounds bad including those who have mechanical backgrounds. My choice was to have the aggressive VVT map stripped out of the tune for now and it is now quiet again.

I'd rather not risk it one way or another.

@Dezoris is the reduction is mid torque enough for you to consider trying an innovate or are you sticking by your guns?

Going to stick with this, already have too much money and time in it.
May do header instead but not a priority yet.

If funds are low just ream out the header cat, allows almost an aggressive tube as a good header, The stock exhaust manifold is of good design (other than the cat.)

The sample size of stock vehicles with high mileage is still quite small, much less tuned examples.

The sound recordings are almost too good so there is so much other noise it's hard to hear and separate "bad" from "normal" noises. I don't think I hear a major DI problem but if there is a minor one you won't hear it recording from the engine bay.

Asking tuners or engineers to specifically tell you that you do or don't have problem with a single piece of data is why they aren't jumping in (plus we all have hundreds of customers and other business that will always take priority). We simply can't make judgement calls without seeing lots of data to back up any theories we may have. If you had a data log and we could see DI pressure waves or even your cam timing plot we could say hey it all looks normal and you're just being paranoid or that you might have a legitimate problem.

Thanks,
Phil Grabow

Just to be clear, there are two different noises being discussed here... there is a resonance/raspy noise which is normal and nothing to worry about, then there is a noise from the DI pump which might be something to worry about, or it might not.

The only way to tell for sure which noise you're hearing is to log the DI pressure and look for a consistent wave.

Now that logging is working for me again, I'm going to pull a log to see what's happening with mine. I have an early build date (delivered July 2012) and am on the original DI pump revision, but mine doesn't seem to make the bad noise at all.

What log parameter(s) should we be watching for this DI pressure wave/flucutation?

Here is the comparison video of the before and after tuning. One with aggressive cam angle and one with stock angle. I am keeping the tune with the stock angle, much more refined. Dyno scheduled for 2 weeks.
