2017 FT-86 SpeedFactory Time Attack Build - ML24 WideBody - Dry Sump and much more.
2017 Time Attack Build It’s been almost four and a half years since we picked up our silver FRS from the dealership. Through those years it’s progressed through many different stages, and we’ve been able to develop numerous performance parts in the process. If you want to catch up on the beginning stages of this car, check out our old build thread. Last season we went out with a bang when our engine decided to throw a rod during the 2016 GTA Super Lap Battle at Buttonwillow. This caused a nice hole in the closed deck block and also started the car on fire as oil exited the block. Instead of giving up on the FA20 platform and going the swap route, we are throwing in another FA20 and giving it the proper support it needs to make big reliable track power. Sure you can make big power on these motors but getting them reliable at higher HP numbers for 20-30 min WOT sessions on track is proving to be a bit more difficult. First things we’re working on is fabricating an equal length turbo manifold and a custom dry sump oil system. This week we got the dry sump oil pan back from the machinist and have gotten the oil reservoir fabricated and mounted in the passenger seat area next to the new cool shirt system. The stock pan with an aftermarket baffle is still proving to be an issue when adding the cornering G forces that the 315 hoosiers on all four corners is allowing. To safely store the fuel to feed this thirsty new engine, we went with a 12 gallon ATL Well Cell that fits snug in the spare tire well. Inside the fuel cell is a Radium Engineering FCST 1 surge tank pump capable of up to 1,350LPH at 43psi. That should be enough. That’s our plan and the progress we’ve made so far. As the time attack build continues, we’ll keep this thread updated. |

Got the car back after getting the interior sprayed grey.
Took the rocket bunny kit off, through on a new OE front bumper and fenders, and started mounting the new ML24 wide body kit. Last edited by FT-86 SpeedFactory; 03-29-2017 at 11:15 AM. |

All eleven body panels are now mounted on the car with help of some clecos.
Turns out this new ML24 is about 25mm wider on each corner than our previous rocket bunny kit. On a stock frs/86 this kit should widen the front by 65mm per side, and 90mm per side in the rear. With our previous rocket bunny kit we ran 315 slicks on all corners, and seeing how this new wide body is a bit wider, maybe we should get even wider tires. Just a thought, no concrete plans yet. You'll have to stay tuned to find out. |

What are your livery plans? I feel like the past choices have kind of let down an otherwise cool looking car. Looking forward to seeing how she looks with the kit painted/wrapped.

looks good guy's excited to see more and more of these at the track.
Any plans for the GRIDLIFE events? I've run my FRS in their Time Attack series for a few years. (although i'm only doing the Midwest event this year) Planning to get a little more serious after this season.
