Well yeah I ignored the IS part because it's not a coupe. However it is a sharp handler (compared to it's peers - well except maybe the Guilia).

Not a coupe. Basically the only coupes that Lexus offers are hopelessly overweight. There's no saving them, on their current platforms.

Toyota Supra: ‘drift Mode’ Confirmed, Manual ‘box On The Cards

Quote:
A Toyota test driver has confirmed the new Supra will be offered with a so-called “drift mode”, while another executive revealed a manual gearbox is on the cards.

Speaking to CarAdvice, test driver Herwig Daenens said the new Supra – which shares much with the new BMW Z4 roadster alongside which it was developed – would be offered with a dedicated sideways setting.

“There is a drift mode available and you can also drive the vehicle with all systems off. It’s called track mode,” Daenens told the Australian publication.

“It is a combination of settings that you configure and unlock this mode. There is a normal mode and you combine it with ESC on and off. With a short push, it’s traction off, which allows you to have more slip angle. It activates later,” he explained.

According to the same publication, assistant chief engineer, Masayuki Kai, confirmed a manual transmission had been developed for the Supra.

“This is not yet finally decided, and depending on feedback from the market, we will decide if we should introduce a manual transmission,” Kai told CarAdvice.

“We have developed it, yes; there is hardware ready. Right-hand drive? Yes, of course. It needs to be sold in Japan, which is a right-hand drive market,” he added.

The new Supra is expected to be fully revealed in early 2019, before launching in South Africa in June that year.

Also, reckon this means "drift mode" will require some pedal dance?

50,000 pounds = 65,365.05 United States Dollar at the current exchange rate. A bit more than the $63K that I predicted a while back. Of course, this is still speculation but I knew anything that BMW had a hand in would be relatively expensive and even the Toyota reps have been calling it an "expensive" car.

Orders start in October so I would think that the wraps will come off it completely next month.

Speculation for sure. We will see when we see. At $65k they are in Cayman, LT1, GT350R, etc territory, and not competitively priced, so the buyers will likely be a super niche group.

As were the buyers of the last generation of Supra:

Base Price of Toyota Supra
Year Supra Supra Turbo
1993 $33,900 $39,900
1994 $35,800 $42,800
1995 $37,600 $47,500
1996 $38,600 $50,400

That 96 Turbo supra would cost $78,738.36 in 2017 dollars so from that point of view the $65K 2019 Supra turbo would be a bargain.

Hopefully, they will actually produce the turbo 4 at a more reasonable price. I think that it would be the one that would be more attractive to me as I like minimalist and somewhat raw sports cars.

I dont think 65k is niche market anymore. There are plenty of high priced camaros, mustangs, and even corvette models running around. They sell without hassle.

The high priced domestics have 500-700 HP. Much easier to sell those than a <400hp sports car to your typical American customer that can afford that price range, the ones wearing socks inside sandals.

People dont have issues paying for toys. If people want this thing they'll buy it.

I think that cars are cheaper now when compared to the 80's and 90's.

The Supra ended production here in 1998, but like 2002 or 2003 in Japan. Cost was a big factor.

Like Yoshoobaroo, it isn't the price; it is the competition. A Cayman S starts at $67k. For the domestics, a base Corvette is $55k, and the GT350 and ZL1 are $62k. M3/M4 are in the 60's. Alfa 4c is $56k. Jaguar f-Type is $61k. I can keep going. Don't get me started on the lightly used market.
