Ya, I can imagine the only thing worse than parting out a car would be parting it out and having to find stock parts to replace them.

OBTW, might you be interested in a 8-track tape deck from a 1979 Lincoln or a fuel pump from a 1948 Chevrolet or a new spark plug for a 1947 Cushman motor scooter or how about a timing light and dwell meter??

Nope, I was born almost 50 years after the end of the great depression. I still have random parts from the VW's I owned about 10 years ago laying around the garage so I tossed my suspension to avoid adding to the pile, and I just never thought I'd need it for a situation like this. The main reason I saved the other parts from my FR-S was because they fit into a box, so they were easy to store neatly, and I just never got around to taking them to the dump....

Now, that's making me feel old -

I was born about 5 years after the great depression ended so all I heard was "waste not, want not" over and over again. Or, about the starving kids in China.

Both of my parents tend to hoard old useless junk, and the worst part is they don't store it neatly, so shit is just stuffed in random places around the house. I don't like their hoarding/poor organization habits, so I try to not become what I hate by getting rid of things I don't absolutely need to keep ASAP. I was expecting to keep my FR-S forever since I've never totaled a car, so I tossed a few old parts I thought were worthless, but I guess there's a first time for everything...

It looks like I'll be going back where I came from and returning to the VW scene for a while. There's a nice 30th anniversary Jetta GLI for sale locally that I can afford entirely with the insurance check. After I'm a little more "established" in my career and have some spare money (I recently just graduated from college) I plan to buy a brand new 86 or BRZ (if they're still being produced).

Sounds like a good plan -
