I wanted the Toyota 86 when it came out, and that's what it's always been called here in Australia, but I got a little cheaper car for around $27k negotiated down to $23k The 86 here is $40k driveaway manual for the GTS.

I was similar in being unsure about the front, but the video made me really appreciate it and now I don't need to change anything with the front other than a splitter. Also the steering wheel has never and will never have a Toyota symbol. It's always been the 86 badge, as shown in the video!

If I could swap and change it exactly to my liking I'd opt for the 2017. Swap the bumper cover to the 13'-16' model year, keep the 17' headlights and tails. As well as swap out the BRZ styled top fender piece to the FR-S one with the 86 piston badge and taking the 86 circle badge off the fender.

I like the new interior (not sure why people keep posting interior rendering images with Toyota badge on the steering when its an 86 badge) the new headlights and taillights, HATE the new front bumper cover and I wish they kept the 86 piston badge on the fender...

I will be getting a Toyobaru in a couple years, but that would be my ideal FR-S/86

Pretty much exactly what I would want to do. My opinion might change as I'm going to assume the front bumper won't look so outrageous in person.

That was simply the first pics that Toyota put out. They obviously had just not swapped the cover out yet. The pics we have seen so far are all probably just 16s with the 17s parts bolted on since it is not likely that they are producing them yet.

Personally I'd take the 2017 BRZ body, 2017 86 rims, 2013-2016 TRD rear, 2014 FRS knee pads, 2012 LFA interior and 2020 STI BRZ engine. But I'm still deciding what I'm going to do.

I think what makes me most curious about all this is how it'll affect the sales. I'm really wondering if it'll make much of a difference and how long it'll take this one to clutter the streets and lose its glamour factor of being the new shiny car.

Probably about a year or so. Until the next release series or generation 2 comes out.

We need to plan a gigantic swap meet in about a year. Everybody can just show up and start switching parts around.
Be some poor RB dude over in a corner going "Ummm guys, what about me? Hey over here? Guys? Guys?"

It's the different angles that makes it look good. I'm calling it now, people will probably be singing a different tune when they go see one in person. It's made me reconsider getting one again, but I would have to turbo charge it this time.

I like the wheels and the interior changes of the new 86, but the FRS is better to me because of its simplicity.

The 86 feels a little too cluttered to me, aesthetically.

Overall, I prefer the FRS... and the new BRZ lol

Because many of us don't like it makes us in denial?
Maybe ones that do like it delusional?
Taste is subjective and that does not make the ones that don't like it wrong in any way any more that it makes the ones that do like it wrong. Why is everybody expected to like it?

I think it is ugly as sin and would even if I didn't have the GOOD looking one!

1. 86 Headlights > FR-S Headlights

2. 86 Wheels > FR-S 2 tone Wheels

3. 86 leather Steering Wheel (86 emblem) > FR-S Steering Wheel

4. 86 Kneepads > FR-S No Kneepads

5. 86 Alacantara Seats > FR-S Fabric seats

6. 86 Exhaust tips > FR-S dinky tips

7. 86 Fin antenna > FR-S antenna

8. Toyota Emblem > Scion Emblem

9. Personally I didn't have a problem with the FR-S taillights but many people prefer the new taillights

10. 86 name > FR-S name

I think most people will agree with these points

11. Front bumper looked not so great in 86 pics but I think it looks great in video, at the moment it's controversial so i'll give the point to the FR-S

That's 10 (86) - 1 (FR-S)

I'll give you the opportunity to present counterpoints to my argument though.
