Accelerator Pedal

Does anyone else have a heavy foot, wear boots or steel toed shoes most of the time? Has anyone developed a way to increase the tension of the accelerator pedal so that you can feel the pedal through a normal shoe or boot?

I think you just have to get used to it.

I used to have this problem when I worked EMS but you get used to it. I guess it sucks more if you had an MT but I was driving an auto back then.

Best bet if you can't get used to it, go to work in a pair of sneakers and change when you get there.

So you're saying that I need to be like Emilie de Marco in order to drive my car?

Why not just take the boot off? I love driving barefoot/with socks.

I've never been in a shoe where I felt my driving was severely affected but in that case driving shoes would make sense. Otherwise I'd just deal with the dead pedal on the way home, and take boot off in the morning

It's like I get a headache if I scoff myself with ice cream, but instead of not doing it, I'll just wait until the ice cream is full melted.

I do love driving shoes, but when not wearing them I can see what you mean. I have larger (13) feet and really dig my heel into the floor mat to help me modulate the accel the way I want. I mean, so much so that I almost wore through the Weathertechs in my Spec.B. After 1200mi, the mat in the 86 is already showing signs of my abusive, er, foot.

I drive in (size 14) combat boots nearly every day. I got used to it, but its still interesting transitioning from combat boots, to dress shoes, to running shoes depending on the uniform of the day. I have noticed that my shifts can be a bit clunky after going from one type to another, but its still manageable for me.

Like Sirsimon above, I have extremely deep valleys where my heals rest, which is what I also use to control pressure on the accelerator.

I find it somewhat difficult to drive/ shift smoothly in my red wing boots so I wear comfy sneakers until I get to work.

But as others suggested, investing in some decent driving shoes wouldn't be a bad idea.

I'm a bigfoot too (13 or so). I've found in running shoes, I don't have a lot of feel for heel n toe. In hiking boots, hardly any feel at all.

What I like the most so far are my Sanuks. Thin sole, comfortable, look good enough for work.

I do want some actual driving shoes though.
